Charger Check-In
Thursday, May 7, 2020
A Note from Ms. Owens
The month of May has arrived, and our community is working hard to stay connected. Teachers are holding Zooms to check-in with their students. Families are sharing pictures of their children engaged in learning activities or showing new Charger apparel. Students are asking their teachers questions and their teachers are responding. Teachers are working with parents to adjust workloads if students are struggling. Our First Communicants in-waiting received seed packets to plant as we wait for details on rescheduling the event. Our 8th grade class nominated two of their classmates to crown the Blessed Mother tomorrow. Families are volunteering to host Morning Announcements and Prayers. Masses are live-streamed at 10AM Monday through Saturday and at noon on Sunday. Virtual prayer groups for adults and for families have begun. The Rosary for Healing is streamed each Tuesday at 6:30PM. Thank you for all you are doing to help our community stay connected.
Our return to celebrating (virtual) All-School Mass continues tomorrow with our May Crowning. The Mass will be live streamed at 10AM on the church's Facebook page. We will also be able to watch two of our 8th graders crown the Blessed Mother along with the vocals of another talented 8th grader in a prerecorded video. Thank you to the Shields, Schoeberl and McKirdie families for all their help in keeping this tradition alive while we cannot gather as a community. The worship aid is available below.
As we approach the end of the school year, I recognize that many families would like the opportunity to come together to celebrate milestones. Unfortunately, that is not a possibility right now. The Archdiocese of Chicago has issued very clear and explicit guidelines that neither the church nor the school can encourage or promote any events that would call people to gather together. Once those guidelines are relaxed or lifted, we will most certainly look for ways for our community to celebrate.
At the end of March, I sent out information for families facing financial hardship during this crisis. I've linked that letter in one of the buttons below. If your family is dealing with financial hardship, please read the letter and reach out to me ASAP.
And now for some quick but, important, news...

- Several families have contacted the school with questions about the process for picking up students' belongings at the end of the year. The Office of Catholic Schools has just released their guidelines, and we will share the details of the procedure we will follow once they have been finalized.
- If you know of an SCA family who owns a small business that we can publicize here to help support them, please reach out to me via email.
Please continue to pray for one another as well as all those people on the front line during this crisis. Stay safe and stay healthy.
Peace,
Kristine Owens
