Fifth Graders Break Up with King George

Fifth grade students wrote break-up letters to King George. After being unfairly taxed, they decided their relationship with Great Britain should be over. It was a fun activity to help students understand the significance of the Declaration of Independence.

CTK Wins at Mu Alpha Theta Competition

Congratulations to the CTK Math Team! The 7th grade team won 2nd place and 7th grader, Isabella Nguyen, won 1st place for 7th grade individual at the Mu Alpha Theta Math Competition at Mount St. Mary Academy last week.

3rd Graders Travel the World

Third graders used their passports to travel the world. Students researched a country and presented at the 3rd Grade Culture Fair, many even dressing up and making food native to their country. Then students "traveled" around the room to each country, writing one fact about the places they visited in their passports.

Kindergarten Techies

Kindergarten students enjoy their work on the iPads using apps like Seesaw, Epic, and Scratch Jr. Mrs. Frank meets with them weekly in their classrooms for their Technology lesson.

4th Grade Scientists

Fourth graders have been busy experimenting. They have enjoyed working on a couple of experiments including, discovering how solutions are different from mixtures and chemical reactions.

Father Daughter Dance Fun

A donut wall, candy buffet, cookies, cake pops, pizza, crafts, limbo, conga lines…what more could you ask for?! These daddies and daughters danced the night away at the 2nd annual Father Daughter Dance!

ALEKS Math

Students are having fun and learning at the same time in our after school math program! The after school math program, ALEKS Math, is a web-based assessment and learning program. The ALEKS program uses questioning to assess the skills a student does and does not know and then the program assigns individual learning paths based on the results. Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Frank also incorporate hands-on learning to teach and reinforce math skills.

Carrot Diffusion Lab

Seventh graders performed a Carrot Diffusion Lab to observe osmosis and diffusion. They are learning about cells and the movement of cellular materials.

Hungry Hungry Hippos

Students had a blast playing Hungry Hungry Hippos! The classic board game morphed into an exciting P.E. activity using balls, baskets, and scooters.

Jr. High Poetry Cafe

Sr. Glorea’s classroom was transformed into a Poetry Café, complete with snacks, drinks, and, of course, poems. Seventh grade students recited their favorite poems and 8th grade students wrote and recited their own poems.

Mrs. House Featured on "Catholic School Matters" Radio Hour Podcast

Mrs. House was recently interviewed by Dr. Tim Uhl, creator of "Catholic School Matters" weekly podcast, newsletter, and blog for Catholic school leaders and educators. In the podcast, Mrs. House discusses many topics, including the importance of learning students' names, maintaining and cultivating Catholic identity, and the pastor-principal relationship. Dr. Uhl said, "more than anything, you'll be listening to a great principal who loves her job and does it well."

Boys Basketball Teams Sweep Competition

The CTK Boys Basketball teams played hard this season! The 8th grade CTK 2 went undeafeted (9-0) in League and are the League Champions! The 8th grade CTK 1 team earned Runner-Up in League and Runner-Up in Tournament. The 7th grade team, CTK 1, were the League and Tournament Champions! The CTK 2 7th grade team earned League Runner-Up. The 5th grade CTK 2 team won Leauge and Tournament Runner-Up and CTK 1 also earned League Runner-Up! Plus, two CTK students, Hayden Mack and Matt Greenwood, will advance to the State Free Throw Contest in Morrilton!

CTK Cub Scout Pack Awarded Gold Status

Congratulations to the CTK students and members of Cub Scout Pack 29 for achieving the Gold Status for the Pope Paul VI Catholic Unit Excellence Award. CTK parent and pack leader, Ken King, said his den’s best quality is their knowledge of Catholicism. “When I’m talking to them and asking them questions, they know far more than I did at their age. That’s solely because of that school. Those teachers over there are doing a really good job.”

CTK Alum Makes Top 10 List at U of A

Congratulations to Ryan Pohlkamp, CTK class of 2012, who was named one of the top 10 male graduating students from the University of Arkansas. The students were selected based on their academic achievement, leadership skills, and co-curricular activities.

CTK alum and Mt. St. Mary student, Anne Lashbrook, earned 13th chair out of more than 110 top Alto IIs for this year's prestigious All-State Choir. This is Anne's third time to be selected.
