How to have the best party ever!
Invite Lots of People
Only about 1 in 4 will actually be able to come, so you'll want to invite 40 people or more to get the ideal size of 8-12 people.
Some ideas of who to invite:
People with their own kids
People who are grandparents, aunts, uncles
People who work with kids (teachers, daycare providers)
Everybody else!
No worries.... if there are 2 or 200 people there, I'm happy to do the party!
Invite Them Personally
Personal phone calls, texts, and emails are the best way to get a crowd. Feel free to use Facebook, but follow up with the individual messages. This really makes a difference; people feel like you want THEM to be there, because you took time to be in touch with them personally.
Most people will not RSVP unless you personally invite them.
Encourage people to bring a friend!
Words to Use
Sometimes it is hard to invite people to a product party - even when the products are as awesome as these books. Take the time to explain to them why you thought to invite them.
A sample: "I'm having an Usborne Books party with award-winning kids books. I thought of you because (of your kids, you are a book lover, your grandkids, I thought you'd like some time away from home, etc.) Would you like an invite?"
This last sentence gives them an "opt-in" right off the bat, and most will tell you if they want to come or if they want to order.
Follow Up & Make Your Wishlist
Let's face it: the age of the RSVP is over. Often, you'll need to touch base with your guests after the invite to find out if they are coming. Ask directly, "Can I count on you to be there?"
While you are doing all this, start dreaming! Which books are a "must have" on your wishlist? What do you need in sales to get all those books for free or half price?
Collecting Orders
So your friends can't come, or your sister's in California? Here's how they can still get great books.
Take Orders: You have a catalog and some order forms in your hostess packet. Take them with you wherever you go! Whenever anyone says they can't come, ask if they'd like to see a catalog. Imagine starting your party with $100 in orders! I'll give you an extra prize from me if you do!
Send them the website: You also have an e-show! Send the link to all your family and friends out of town (or in town!) They can order online, have it shipped directly to them, and help your party. The link is: https://f4257.myubam.com/97873
Prepping for the Party
Keep it simple. There is no need to have a full buffet; I've found most people forget about the refreshments because they are so busy looking at books! A few snacks and a beverage is plenty for most parties. If you need to serve a meal (event is over lunch) consider ordering pizza or subs. Unless, of course, cooking is your passion, then go nuts!
Otherwise, all I need is a small table to put books on, and seats for the guests. We can sit on the floor, if that's your style, or around a table. It's your party, your way.
The Party
It will last about 2 hours. I'll do a short presentation, but mostly, we'll all just be there to have fun, chat with each other, and look at books. I'll check-out with each customer and do a door prize drawing. Your guests will have some time after the show to order. Follow up with your guests and send reminders with your link!
Time for Rewards
By the day after your party, I will let you know the total sales and what your free and half price book allowance is. You may choose to collect more outside orders to meet a free book goal, or you might be ready to get that wishlist ordered, pronto!
The Rewards Continue
If any of your friends host a show, you will get $20 in books for $5 at their show! If three friends do, you'll get any product, FREE! Encourage and ask your friends to book a show! And for those out of town friends: I do Facebook Parties!
