" No-one can make you feel inferior unless you let them."- Sarah Hadjar

For 6th grade:

As your year is coming to an end, just remember that you made it! In a few weeks, you will no longer be 6th graders. Remember, stay in touch with the friends that you made this year over the summer and take a risk this summer and try a new activity!

For 7th grade:

Camp is coming! Camp is a great opportunity to meet some new friends and re-connect with old ones. Even if you are not going to camp, you still have the opportunity to meet new students when you have classes on the other team. This is one of the best times of the year.

For 8th grade:

As your time at the middle school is coming to an end, we hope that you take the last several weeks to remember the good times you have had, stay connected with friends over the summer, and get ready for a new adventure next year :)

Outdoor Education Updates

Camp is fast approaching for 7th graders. Here are a couple of important items for families to know:

The Social Studies teachers will be providing camp orientation for the 7th grade students to help them feel prepared for the week and answer any questions they may have about camp. This will be happening on May 5th and 6th during all Social Studies classes. May 13th will be a final reminder day of important information.

Any student who has not paid their $5.00 snack donation money to their morning HR teacher should do that asap. Homeroom teachers have a list of students who still need to contribute.

Any student who will need to take medication during their camp week (either prescription or over the counter) will need to have their healthcare provider complete a medication form. Those forms are available from the Social Studies teachers in 7th grade or the counseling office. The form and the medications must be brought to school on Friday, May 13th for students attending the Mountain week of camp (week 1) and Friday, May 20th for students attending the Stream week of camp (week 2). Mrs. Stroup - the school nurse will collect medications and forms during morning HR on those days. If you have any questions about medications, please contact Mrs. Stroup at

Students will be dropping their gear (bedding & clothing for camp) off on the Sunday night before their camp week at the middle school from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Students will enter the front of the school building and come into the auxiliary gym and place their gear by homeroom. Please have all belongings marked with names.

Please make sure to send your child with a refillable water bottle for camp. Disposable ones are fine and can be refilled as well. It will be important for everyone to stay hydrated at camp!

5th Grade Transition Updates

May is the month of transition. Not only are we preparing to send our 7th grade students off to camp, and our 8th grade students to the high school, but we are also preparing for our 5th grade students to transition to the middle school.

In the next several weeks, Mrs. Dorwart and Mr. Popejoy will be visiting our elementary schools with some of our 6th grade students to talk with them about the middle school. Your student will have the ability to ask questions, get detailed information, and will be coming home with papers for you regarding middle school information.

Our 5th grade classes will also have the opportunity to travel with their current 5th grade teachers to the middle school for a fun filled day of tours, meeting teachers and students, and the most important part: eating lunch!

If you have any questions regarding any of the upcoming transition events, please reach out to your child's current teacher or the middle school counseling department.

May Spotlight: Mental Health Awareness Month

Starting in 1949, mental health advocates and affiliates across the United States have celebrated the month of May as Mental Health Month. Through media, local events, screenings, and community outreach, many of our national programs spread awareness and support to all regarding mental health in America. (MHA Inc, 2022).

One of the largest organizations that has helped paved the way for this movement is Mental Health America. Out of Virginia, MHA provides numerous supports across the country. Each May, MHA focuses on a specific theme and toolkit that they present. This year's theme is "Back to Basics." (MHA Inc, 2022). The focus this year is to provide information on mental health, mental health conditions, and what people can do if their mental health is a concern (MHA Inc, 2022).

For more information on Mental Health Month 2022 and resources available, see the below websites for specifics, and resources that you can access :)
