Forest Grove Family Falcon Update
January 26, 2023 - February 2, 2023
Message from the Principal
Dear Forest Grove Families and Staff,
We had our TK/K and 1st-2nd assemblies on Wednesday. Mr. Russo and student council did a wonderful job performing skits to show students in a fun way what it looks like to be safe at school for grades 1st-2nd.
All of our students and staff have been taking MAP English Language Arts and mathematics.
"MAP Growth is the most trusted and innovative assessment for measuring achievement and growth for all of our students in math, reading, language usage, and it provides teachers with accurate, actionable evidence to help inform instructional strategies regardless of how far students are above or below grade level. It also connects to the largest set of instructional content providers, giving educators flexibility in curriculum choices."
We are looking forward to Friday's Family Game Night. Come one; come all ready to have lots of fun with family and friends. Please reach out to PTA if you are available to help before, during and/or after each event.
If you have any questions, concerns suggestions or commendations, you can use this new email address created for FG parents: FGdeer@pgusd.org. When school is in session, the emails on this account will be checked daily. This is just one option. You can always drop by, call the office or email me directly, but we are looking to provide you with other options.
1, 2, 3...Go Falcons!

Forest Grove Falcon Family Faculty/Staff Spotlight
Christine Gruber, Library Media Technician
Background & Education
I am definitely a Forest Grove Falcon. I came to this school for kindergarten through 5th grade and am proud to be a Breaker! I studied Early Childhood Education at MPC and worked at the Kindergarten Center for a few years. I have been working here for 15 years. I started in the office. I was an aide and noon duty, and I worked in BASRP. I have been PTA President here, and I am so happy in my position in the Library.
Interest
I love reading and doing research. Family time is the best, especially when both our daughters are home, and riding around the beach with my husband and our dog in the Jeep. It is just a nice way to unwind. I also am a little fond of Disney and Disneyland. For me it's not just about the rides or treats, but how Mr. Disney wanted to build something for families and how he worked so hard to make his dreams come true. It's quite inspiring.
One Favorite Elementary School Memory
I don't have one favorite memory! When I was here as a student, we would vote each year what our costumes would be for the Butterfly Parade! Kindergarten was always Monarchs of course, but after that we decided as a class. A special year was when Star Wars first came out (now known as Episode 6 A New Hope) and we dressed as characters from the movie. My 5th grade year, we were other butterflies that were jealous of the Monarchs. I also remember being friends with Mrs. Roach's husband! What Do You Love About Forest Grove?
What I love about Forest Grove is we are definitely a family here. I love my job in the library, I get to be with books and I get to watch the students grow up from TK-5th grade and they are my kids! It's the best job in the school!
Mrs. Gruber you are a Mrs. Disney in the library. You have turned the library into a world of fun, dreams and inspiration. We appreciate and thank you for making reading such a big part of our life!
Program Highlight
Library & Media
Mrs. Gruber performs many tasks in the library and media center as library technician. Her responsibilities support the entire school with library and media services. She explains that other than having the fun of all the books, the library media tech is also in charge of ordering and keeping track of all of the textbooks for the students. Other responsibilities include: researching new books to add to our collection, keeping our collection up to date and current, which also means weeding out old books to remove from our system and find new homes for them. Keeping the library organized after 300 students have come in over the week is a challenge.
Mrs. Gruber keeps a plan for each class that comes to visit the library. We are fortunate enough to have library weekly for every class. A lot of districts do not provide that for students.
The library is the heart and hub of the school, and she states, she I like to call it the Room of Requirement: if we don't have it, we will find out where we can get it."
The library is also used often for class projects, meetings, and guest speakers. Mrs. Gruber often opens the library for the students at recess time for coloring, games and of course reading.
