PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL
PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Hello PVM Families,
As a school, both staff and students are back into the swing of things following the winter break. We would like to thank all of you for supporting us with our assessments by encouraging your child to do their best. We are seeing a theme of excellent growth from the completed tests. Make up testing should be done in the next week or two. In addition to the assessment data we would like to share that our student attendance data shows a seven percent growth this year for students attending ninety percent or more of the time. This takes teamwork to improve in this area so thank you all. Please read further for updates in our community newsletter.
Thanks
Mr. Maloney, PVM Principal

SMARTER BALANCED TESTING
SBAC testing this year will occur between April 27th and May 15th. Student attendance during this period is very important. On test days we will be testing the first 2.5 hours of the school day. We strongly encourage families to schedule appointments and vacation to avoid having students miss class during the testing window. We will publish exact dates of testing in a later newsletter, and they will also be available on the PVM website.
Thank you
FROM THE NURSE
Attention Pleasant Valley Families:
PVM will be conducting hearing and vision screenings for our 5th and 7th grade students on the morning of February 13th. Please be sure students who wear glasses bring their glasses with them that day. We hope to have as many students in attendance as possible to minimize the need for make up testing.
Thank you.

BOUNDARY EXCEPTION APPLICATIONS
In-district Boundary Exception applications for 2020-21 accepted Jan. 13
Parents who would like to request an in-district student transfer to a Battle Ground school other than their home school for the 2020-21 school year may submit their request beginning Monday, Jan. 13, 2020.
Current Battle Ground students who live outside the district boundaries can submit a letter of intent to attend a Battle Ground school beginning Jan. 13, but must still submit a Choice Transfer form to the student's home district on May 1.
Boundary requests and letters of intent should be turned in to the school that you are requesting to attend. Although the district will continue to review boundary requests through the end of the school year, turning your request in by Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 will increase the likelihood of acceptance.
This is a change to the in-district boundary process from previous years to give Battle Ground Public Schools more time to plan for the allocation of resources.
There is no change to the process for students who want to attend school in a district other than Battle Ground. Boundary exceptions for students who live inside the district boundaries and want to attend school in another district will need to get the Choice Transfer form approved by the Battle Ground Public Schools' Boundaries Office on May 1.
Transportation is not provided for students on boundary transfers. Transfers are granted on a first-come, first served basis IF there is space. Transfers must be renewed each year by the parent/guardian. More information about transfers is online at www.battlegroundps.org/boundaries.

OFFICE INFORMATION
Hello from the PVM office!
Winter is here, and a weather-related school delay or closure could happen at any time. It is always a good idea to look at your plans in case of a school delay or closure. Please encourage your child to bring and wear their coats and hats when the weather is cold; students are outside before and after school and for recess. If you need assistance in obtaining warm winter wear for your child, please call the school office. (360) 885-5500.
Inclement weather and emergency information:
BGPS sends out parent/guardian phone calls and emails to notify families of unplanned school closures. You may also call the BGPS information line for information on weather/emergency delays and closures.
Information Line: (360) 885-5343 (Updated by 6:00 a.m. on impacted days).
Please use the link below to visit our Weather/Emergency Closures page on the BGPS website for more detailed information about snow bus routes, school late-start times, how we keep you notified of weather or emergency closures, and more.
It is important that we have your current contact information in Skyward, as that is where our system draws data from in order to send out phone calls and emails.
Updating contact/emergency contact information:
Please be sure to update Skyward with any contact information changes. Paper forms sent home for "emergency early release" information are NOT used to update Skyward, that must be done online. Please complete the 2019/2020 Skyward Update if you have not already done so.
You can access the skyward log in page HERE.
Thank you!

BATTLE GROUND STUDENT AND FAMILY HANDBOOK
VOLUNTEERS AND CHAPERONES
The application is online, though, we do need to get a copy of your driver's license at the school office in order to process the background check. Click the link below for more information and to apply.
Once approved, the clearance is good for two (2) years.
We encourage you to get cleared now, as the process can take 7 -10 days and is not always possible to complete in time if you wish to chaperone on a field trip with your child's class at the last minute. Thank you so much for spending time here helping at PVM!
