FCI Week At A Glance

May 9-15, 2015

NWEA - May 11-12 - UPDATED

We will be following the same assessment schedule with NWEA as ISTEP, utilizing the 2-hour delay schedule. We want to ensure that we are setting the same tone of importance for our student body as we did with ISTEP. Not only is this part of teacher evaluation, but it showcases student growth as well as assists with various student placement for the next school year.

It is important that we finish NWEA at the beginning of that week to ensure there is time for make-ups mid-week, allowing for the Cogat be given to those who qualify to be tested for High Ability in a timely fashion before the end of the year events begin to maximize the potential to get a truer picture of student ability. (95%-higher on NWEA=high ability qualifier; 80-94% on NWEA=take Cogat to determine HA qualification - 5th grade only)

  • Monday, 5/11- Reading
  • Tuesday, 5/12 - Math
  • Wednesday/Thursday, 5/13-14 - Make-ups
  • Monday, 5/18 - Cogat (a.m.)

**Notes:

  • We will have band and orchestra on 5/11-12 as they have a concert on 5/14. Your team may choose to run an abbreviated schedule both days or consider other options such as Monday-periods 1,2, and shortened 3 then Tuesday - periods 4, 5, and shortened 3. Please let the office know your plans so they know where to locate students should the need arise.
  • If students forget iPads, iPads aren't charged, etc., the computer labs will be manned by the Related Arts teachers so you may send students there. Since these assessments are not timed, Related Arts teachers will be able to get students working as soon as they arrive and not have to wait for everyone to be present. However, having said that, please send students to the lab as soon as you are aware of a need. Some of the related arts teachers will be assisting in classrooms with substitutes as well.
  • Remember that you WILL need to have students put on GUIDED ACCESS just as they did with ISTEP.

IMPORTANT: Please take time prior to Monday morning to refresh yourself with NWEA instructions. John sent out directions Friday morning (5/8) for you to refer to.

CPR training

Let Kim know if you are interested in CPR training on Tuesday, May 12. Cost is $35.

iPad Collection - MAY 27th

All student iPads that have been rented from HSE will be collected on May 27th. A Skylert will be sent from the district Technology department the week prior to collection with information listing all items that must be turned in as well as clean-up tasks that must be completed by parents prior to May 27th as well.

Collection will be in the Media Center throughout the day, and you will be notified as to when your students will be involved in turn-in. Stay tuned for more information in the near future.

RtI Update

Upcoming dates:

  • May 20th - The RTI 2014-15 OVERVIEW forms (white sheets) must be turned into Jessica
  • May 22nd - RtI services will continue through at least May 22nd. This includes both tier 2 during the school day and tier 3 after school. Documentation should also continue as long as RtI instruction is occurring.

Classroom monitoring

This is a reminder that classrooms should have teacher coverage at all times. Should an 'emergency' situation arise, contact a colleague near you to assist or contact someone in the office to intervene. On the rare occasion that you need an additional copy made, please call the office and, if available, send a student with what needs copied so someone may assist. Otherwise, please be sure to utilize prep period as well as time before and after school to have items prepared for class. This is a situation that is not only about behavior but more importantly safety.

**The real bottom line is to be vigilant when monitoring students throughout the day whether in your classroom, recess, or hallways.
