Distance Learning among COVID-19

It has been quite a whirlwind as we have scrambled to offer Distance Learning to our students at MPS this spring. Thanks to our parents who have partnered with us to continue your child's education among a national pandemic. The teachers and staff at MPS have been amazing during this time, giving of themselves to our school while still taking care of their own families at home. Even though the school building is closed, learning has not stopped, and school employees are working harder than ever to make sure you and your family are supported during COVID-19.

Vicki Lofthus, in our school kitchen, has provided more than 70 meals a day to Manvel kids. We are extremely grateful to her and our paraprofessionals at MPS for providing this service during this time. Please call our school office if you would like to be put on the list for meals.

Our custodial staff, Jim and Corinne, have deep-cleaned our school while also getting many updates completed for next year.

We are continuing to look at options for our 8th grade graduation. As we move closer to May, we will be updating our families about how this will look while following state health guidelines.

We continue to look for guidance from the State as we move forward into May about a timeline for re-opening schools. At this time, we will continue to offer distance learning to our Manvel School families. If you need anything, do not hesitate to call and ask. We are in this together!

*The MPS Distance Learning Plan that was submitted to the State of North Dakota can be found on our school website. This plan has information about learning, grading, and technology during COVID-19.

Staffing Changes for 2020-2021 School year

Mrs. Kim Schanilec, our Middle School instructor, will be retiring this year after 22 years of teaching at Manvel School. We appreciate her dedication and commitment to our school and students over the years. In her place, we have hired Mr. Travis Barandi. He is a graduate student and Resident Teacher from the University of North Dakota.

Mr. Matt Bakke has accepted a position at Devils Lake Public School District as their new Superintendent. Manvel School has secured Mr. Dave Wheeler, Principal from Thompson Public School in Thompson, ND to begin July 1, 2020.

Mrs. Jane Misialek, our part-time school counselor will no longer be with us. Mrs. Missy Ketterl, graduate student and social worker from Hillsboro, ND will fill this position full time at MPS.

Mrs. Nora Foltz, MS instructor, will be moving out of the area with her family. In her place, we have hired Mr. Tom Twedell. Mr. Twedell student taught at MPS this year, and he is graduating in May from the University of North Dakota.

Mrs. Carley Dub will be the third grade classroom instructor, and Mrs. Jodie Wohlgamuth will move up to the middle school!

We will have two sections of second grade. Mrs. Kim Potratz will move up to teach 2nd grade with Ms. Amanda Fuller, and Ms. Kasprick will be the first grade teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

As we look ahead to next year, we have a lot of changes taking place. We will miss our current staff and wish them well, but look forward to new beginnings, and new and exciting learning for our students in the year ahead!
