Dear Families,
We are looking for 1 parent interested in participating with our School Site Council. The School Site Council (SSC) is a group of parents, teachers and administration elected by their peers who meet once a month. The team's goal is to maintain and monitor the School Site Plan (SSP). The overall purpose of the SSC is to implement policy at our school in order to meet the needs of our students. Any interested parent of a SBUSD Virtual Academy student can run for SSC. Parents are an essential part of the SSC. Please consider participating by completing the interest form below.

School-Site Council Composition
The members of the SSC represent the composition of school’s pupil population and notwithstanding the size of the school, the composition of the SSC shall ensure parity between the groups (EC Section 65000[a]).
The SSC in an elementary school shall be composed of the both of the following two groups (EC Section 65000[c][1]):
School Group Members (Elementary Schools):
- The principal of the school or his or her designee;
- school personnel employed at the school who are not teachers, selected by school personnel employed at the school who are not teachers, and
- classroom teachers employed at the school, selected by classroom teachers employed at the school; The classroom teachers selected shall constitute a majority of the school members selected (EC Section 65000[c][1][A]); and
Parent and/or Community Group Members (Elementary Schools):
- Parents of pupils attending the school, or other members of the school community, selected by parents of pupils attending the school. The number of parent and/or community members selected shall equal the number of school members selected (EC Section 65000[c][1][B]).
In other words, the minimum number of SSC members at an elementary school is a total of ten (10) (e.g. 1 principal or his or her designee, 1 other school personnel, 3 classroom teachers, and 5 parent/community members).

Once the interested forms are complete, I will send out voting ballots to select our parents as active members. These ballots will be due on August 27th no later than 4:oo p.m.
Our first meeting is scheduled for September 2021

An important component to students succeeding is having them attend school on time and daily. We want all of our students to thrive at the Virtual Academy. In order for this to take place, we need students to participate daily in class, interact with their classmates, and come ready to learn. We look forward to working together with you and having a successful year for our students.
Ecology Center Farm Kit - Seeking Kid Chefs!
Do you have an elementary or middle school student who wants to cook or learn more about local farming? SunCoast Market Co-op is partnering with The Ecology Center to distribute 100 Field kits donated by The Chuck and Ernestina Kreutzkamp Foundation. Kits are free to local families experiencing financial hardship.
You must reserve a kit in advance and pick up on August 26 between 9-10 a.m.
The Field Kit is great for little ones to celebrate and learn more about how food is grown. The Field Kit includes everything you need to make a family meal of black bean tacos and salsa. The kit is paired with an immersive take-home learning guide.
Materials available in English and Spanish.
Changes in Meal Distribution - Reminder
Thank you to all that completed the Google Form listed below. I will send out an email confirming your pick-up date/time starting this week. If you have not had a chance to sign up for meals, please complete the form below. You only need to fill out the form once.
Meals will be available for pick up at the Virtual Academy campus only, located at 525 3rd Street Imperial Beach, CA 91932. Meal service is a drive-through operation and we accept walk-ins. Please complete the Google form below to let us know your preferred day and time for pick up.
