Class News 4 - 7 - 17
In literacy this week, we discovered many different strategies used in persuasive articles and advertisement. Many kids brought in examples of persuasion found in advertisements they saw at home. We read an opinion piece published in the The Washington Post by a 12 year old girl who was able persuade the makers of Temple Run to make a change to their app. Ask your child what change was made thanks to the power of her persuasion!
In math, we continued to explore the concept of fractions. We used hands on manipulatives called fraction tiles to explore making equivalent fractions in order to subtract unlike fractions. We also started working in small groups to address areas in need of growth based on our iReady assessment data. We love working with your kids in small groups, and we can't wait to see the growth they will make!
In time traveling, we are studying the early New England colonies by gathering information and creating a persuasive billboard to persuade future colonists to come to New England.
Next week, we have Step Up day to the middle school on Friday. We will also be moving our materials out of our desks and our lockers down the hall across from the cafeteria. We will be working to simulate the material management and organization needed to retrieve materials in between classes in middle school. They will be ready; no worries!
