Weekly Wrap-Up

In reading this week, we will continue to read lots of books to build our stamina and we will keep practicing answering who, what, when, where, why, and how questions about what we read.

In writing, we will be writing more small moment stories. Students will also be looking at their stories and decided how to revise them to make them even better.

In math, we will keep practicing using the count on and make a ten strategies to add and subtract numbers up to 18. Here is a link to a parent resource website Wake County has created to help parents understand the new strategies we are using now. .

For our PYP unit, Who We Are, we are going to be learning about government.

On Tuesday, all of the 2nd grade teachers will be in an all-day meeting and the class will have a substitute. The substitute will be giving Class Dojo points throughout the day, but she will not be able to put them into the computer. I will put all of the points into the computer before I go home Tuesday so you can see how your child did.

We are currently just doing paper homework, but I hope to have students start doing their homework online in the next few weeks. Right now the students are practicing logging on and getting to and Moby Max. I don't mind if students want to go ahead and try this out at home if they feel comfortable, but it won't be the homework assignment until you see it written down in his or her notebook in their Homework Binder. I will send out a Class Dojo message and email to let you know when we start this homework as well. Until then, students will have Reading Log and a math worksheet each night.

Class Dojo

If you haven't already, please be sure to sign up for Class Dojo. Not only can you see how your child is doing throughout the day, you and I can instantly communicate through text messages. I will do my best to answer you as soon as possible. If it is later in the evening (after 9pm) I will answer in the morning. Please let me know if you need you parent code and I will send it to you. I gave you a copy if you were at Meet the Teacher, but I know you got a lot of papers that day!
