Veteran Richard Crenshaw Acknowledging a Note from Student Adrienne Ackley
We were very happy this week to host Vietnam Veteran Mr. Richard Crenshaw as he gave a thank you note to Adrienne Ackley from Mrs. Norris' class. Mrs. Norris had students create thank you cards for veterans and these cards were delivered to the North Pole VFW. Mr. Crenshaw received a card created by Adrienne when he visited the VFW on Veterans Day.
Mr. Crenshaw was very touched, and called the school to request a meeting with the author of the card so that he could thank her and deliver a Thank You card of his own. After talking with Adrienne's parents the meeting was set.
The two met on Wednesday and Mr. Crenshaw let us know the reason he was so touched: He had never before received thanks for this service. As many of us know, the Vietnam era was very difficult, and Mr. Crenshaw endured service in Vietnam during wartime, as well as many indignities as a result of the social unrest at the time of his return to the states. We are so glad to give him the opportunity to thank Adrienne and that Mrs. Norris' project was able to provide a smile and Thanksgiving warmth to many area veterans.
We here at Crawford would like to thank you all for the support you provide to your children, our students, and to the staff and teachers here at Crawford every day. We are very thankful for you and our community. Happy Thanksgiving.
Band/Orchestra Winter Concerts
This time of year can be very busy, so we hope you are able to save the date for our Band and Orchestra Winter Concerts on December 14. The band and orchestra will be performing together, in two performances of the same material. The first performance, at 12:45, will host the third and fourth graders as the audience. Parents are welcome to attend that performance, or the following one at 1:15, which will be for the fifth and sixth graders. Since the band and orchestra are comprised of mostly fifth and sixth graders, there will be more space available for audience members at that performance. So pick your time and plan ahead to attend our Winter Concert.
As a reminder, the second quarter ungraded Encores will end on December 2, so students and teachers have more time for end of the quarter catch-up and merry-making with their classes. Band, Orchestra, ELL, ELP and Reading and Math Lab classes will continue as normal. More information about next quarter will be forthcoming.
Our standardized assessment, Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), will take place in January as well, after students have settled back in from winter break. Now is a great time of year to snuggle in and read some books together as a family, have older children read aloud to siblings, and, of course, books make excellent gifts! Keep those skills sharp over the breaks!
Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday and enjoy the four day weekend.
