PONDER ISD SERVICES
Elementary Services
The GATE program at Ponder Elementary is designed as a pull-out program for students
in 1st through 5th grades. Students are assigned to the gifted classroom (in place of a
regular class) for 45 minutes twice weekly to receive instruction in critical thinking,
problem-solving, decision making, and creative thinking. Interdisciplinary units include
study in all four core academic areas.
Junior High Services
The GATE program at Ponder Junior High is implemented through an enrichment elective
course offered to all students who are identified as GT in 6th-8th grade. All teachers in
core subject areas have also received appropriate GT training and have the ability to
provide GT services in their respectable core class utilizing differentiated instruction.
High School Services
GATE's students at Ponder High School may participate in honors, AP, dual credit
and OnRamps courses for the core academic areas, as well as in regular core classes
utilizing differentiated instruction. Teachers in the core subject areas have received
appropriate GT training. Gifted and talented students at the high school level are
encouraged to participate in honors, dual credit, and/or OnRamps courses.

HOW DO I REFER MY CHILD
2. Submit the form by December 9, 2022.
3. You will provide information in a questionnaire about your child. You will have the opportunity to write a paragraph about your child's learning characteristics at the end. It is best if you prepare for this before you start the form.
WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION IS IMPORTANT TO SHARE IN THE REFERRAL?
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- What happens if my child is absent on the day of testing? We will schedule makeup testing as time is available. Contact your Campas Coordinator.
- Does my child need to be retested if they are already receiving services? Your child does not need to be retested once they have qualified for services.
- My child did not qualify the last time they were tested. Can they be tested again? Yes, students have annual opportunities to be referred for gifted services. In deciding if you should refer your child multiple times, consider the child's instructional needs and their response to potentially testing and not qualifying. Sometimes students internalize this as a failure because they do not understand the nature of this kind of assessment and process.
