For over 20 years, Boxtops for Education has given families a way to earn cash for their school just by purchasing products they already buy and clipping Boxtops coupons. The program has changed, but you can still help OSSB. Families no longer have to clip Boxtops for Education - it's virtual! Celebrating Black History Month - OSSB Alumnus, Musician Rahsaan Roland Kirk

Rahsaan Roland Kirk was born August 7, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio, in a neighborhood called Flytown. On December 5, 1977, he died at the young age of 42, after suffering from a stroke.

Kirk became blind at the age of two and went on to study at the Ohio State School for the Blind. By age 15, he was playing saxophone with rhythm and blues bands on the weekend. He had a knack for playing two or three saxophones at the same time. He would be able to play true chords or harmonize with himself by using circular breathing. He could often be seen performing on stage wearing three different saxophones around his neck, switching between, or sometimes playing all three at once!

Kirk was known to speak publicly about Civil Rights and African American History. Several different record labels produced his music, and he performed live up until his death at the age of 42.

The picture shows Kirk onstage with a red light tint, wearing a hat and sunglasses and playing two saxophones at the same time. There is a tactile portrait on the OSSB Wall of Fame as well; look for it when you are at OSSB. ~ Mrs. Sunny Kallstrom, Librarian

Mrs. Brinkman's Students "go" Skiing!

We are happy to be back at school! We are continuing our "Winter" theme. For one of our activities, we used paper plates as pretend skis. We would pretend to ski down the mountain (the red duct tape on the carpet) and try not to fall down while on our skis. But if skiers fell into the "snow" they always had a helpful friend to help them back up! It was FUN!

Fitness Friday returning on February 19th!

School will not be in session on Friday, February 12. Therefore, our weekly fitness session is cancelled. I would like to encourage everyone to get moving and enjoy exercise over the long weekend. Fitness Friday will resume on Friday, February 19 starting at 9:30 am.

Sincerely, Mrs. Henry
