Can you read for 7 days in a row?

Daily reading has many benefits, including improving reading comprehension skills, creativity, critical thinking, and more. To encourage this habit, as part of National Reading Month, we're challenging all FWPS scholars to the Reading Marathon Challenge!

How to Participate in 3 Easy Steps:

  1. Scholars must read for 7 days in a row (a week) during the month of March for a set length of time based on grade level:
    • Grades PreK-5: 30 minutes
    • Grades 6-8: 45 minutes
    • Grades 9-12: 1 hour

  2. Track your progress in the Reading Marathon Challenge reading log.

  3. Turn in your completed reading log to your school's office by Friday, April 14, 2023 for a prize.

Prizes will be distributed by schools. More information to come.

If you are unable to download and print the reading log, you can pick up a reading log from the main office at your school.

Flashback Friday: STEM Exploration Night Inspires Scholars

“My favorite thing tonight has been seeing a lot of people that are different colors and I like that, because it shows that, ‘Hey! They look like me, and I could do that too! I could do anything.” That is the impact the 2019 STEM Exploration Night had on then 4th grader, Sofia.

This year, Superintendent Dr. Pfeiffer has encouraged us all to embrace the possibilities. This year’s scholar-voted STEM Exploration Night theme, “STEM for Everyone,” will allow scholars the chance to see people who look like them in a range of STEM jobs, engage in various fun STEM activities, and learn how their interests, hobbies, and career goals are connected to STEM.

In 2019, Sofia was just realizing the many STEM options available to her. Today, Sofia is now in 8th grade at Woodmont K-8 and is continuing to pursue STEM. Aside from learning about circuits, she reports she plans to go into Computer Science, and recently attended a three-day Microsoft workshop through DigiGirlz to learn about STEM careers. Sofia shared, “I feel like STEM is fun because there are so many aspects to it – our whole world revolves around STEM. It’s a part of our everyday lives.”

STEM Exploration Night inspires scholars to explore, prepare, and launch into STEM opportunities and careers. Be sure to attend the event on Wednesday, April 12 from 6-8 pm at Federal Way High School to see what STEM possibilities lie ahead.
