Why does the desire to protect often lead to strict rules and denial of basic human rights?
In the story of Harrison Bergeron the government tried to protect people so that there was no one stronger or smarter than the other. They would attach weight and mental disability earpieces to everyone to make them equal. This ended up in everyone just being very weak. It was just denying everyone's rights and was very strict. It is just like the book Divergent where they all must pick one attribute and it ends in war.
