Excellence In All We Do 2/12/21
Apologies
I apologize that I didn't get the newsletter done last week...no excuses, I just didn't get it done. I can't believe that we are mid-way through February. The shocking news is, we are 6 weeks through the 3rd Nine Weeks!! Progress reports will be out next week, and we are slowly running out of time to fix our grades. So please make sure to look at your student's grades, but it's even more important to look at the grades with them. That is a major obstacle that we have run into - students often time don't know their grades until it's too late.
We hope that everyone has a great weekend!
Thank you!

Respect, Tolerance and Freedom Of Speech
Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Woodburn and I took some time out last week to speak to our students in a presentation called, "Respect, Tolerance, Freedom of Speech at LVMS". It was a great opportunity to talk to our students in small groups, and we had some really interesting conversations. If you'd like to see the presentation, here it is: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1EdJJAApJW1gmrVsyOgVkibxvKPBARdSz6baT5C2O798/edit?usp=sharing
Fundraiser
This year has been tough on everyone, and the last thing I wanted to do was a fundraiser because 1) It's right after the holidays 2) We've been pulled and stretched in every direction and 3) Personally, I try to avoid fundraisers as much as possible.
However, without the many activities we do throughout the year, fundraising is something that would help tremendously to better fund student/teacher activities. So when I talked to the School Funding Group, I felt like it was a great compromise. All we are asking for is a minimum of a $20 dollar donation, and for that donation, you will receive numerous discounts off brand name items like Amazon, Home Depot, Nike and Oakley. These discounts can far outweigh the cost of your donation. The proceeds of this fundraiser will help fund :
- Culinary Arts
- Teacher Training
- Teacher Supplies
- Student Incentives
- Technology for the classroom
- UIL and OAP Supplies
- School Improvement

We appreciate any support you can help us with!
Futbol anyone?
We are putting out a survey this week for our students to fill out if they would be interested in participating in soccer.
This is just a survey to see if we would have enough athletes interested in participating, if the district was able to start boys and girls soccer programs. The soccer program would start out at the high school level only since there are not many schools with middle school soccer. UIL soccer season normally takes place from Dec. 1st through Spring Break.
We do believe that by adding another sports program to our district, we can give our student body more opportunities to participate and succeed.
If you would be interested in participating at the high school level please let us know by filling out the survey attached. For any other questions please feel free to contact me at roque_palomino@lagovista.txed.net.
C Day
C Days have evolved into a great resource for us, and we have developed some very effective strategies to help our students. RSVP's for Wednesday are no longer required, because we check in the students when they get here. If your student is struggling in a class, or needs extra help, we would love to help them on C Days.

What Day Is It?
Girls Basketball Wraps Up With An Inter Squad Scrimmage
7th Gold: With very few hiccups that came with the volleyball and football season, we assumed things would continue on the same path. We quickly found out that we were going to have to adjust and the girls did an outstanding job with it. The 7th Grade Girls Gold team made substantial gains in all aspects of the game and as a coaching staff we are very thrilled about next year. We saw them play a complete game in their inter squad scrimmage and saw their confidence on the court expand. Again congrats to the girls for being resilient this season!
7 and 8 Blue:
The end of the season has seemed to sneak up on us fast, which is expected with experiencing only ½ of what was scheduled this season. We played only 4 of 8 scheduled games. We struggled to get practices in, and to keep consistency with line-ups. Nonetheless, I am very proud of these girls and their efforts. With the last game scheduled against Comfort being cancelled we wanted to have some type of season closeout, something that said we are ending on a positive note, and an opportunity to play basketball one last time this year. B vs. A scrimmage on Thursday evening was a stretch but I think they still had fun and enjoyed playing (my girls maybe only enjoyed the first ½ because they couldn't breathe on either team the second ½ of each game)! Both B teams really found out how much faster paced the A team competitions are and might not grunt at conditioning in the future, but I think they still enjoyed getting together for the experience. The 8B team ended the season with a 3-1 record. The 7B team finished 0-4 but will be that much more prepared for next year! I am very proud of each one of the girls on the 7B and 8B teams and really enjoyed having them this season and working with both Coach Schwartz and Coach Gonzalez!
8 Gold
Our 8th Grade Gold team finished out the season this past week with an inner squad game vs. 8th Grade Blue. The Gold team was originally scheduled to play against Comfort but they had to cancel the game. The Gold team finished the season with a win over the Blue team. The ladies worked so hard all season long. There were so many obstacles to overcome this year and the ladies stayed positive all the way through the season. They completed the season at 4-1. The following are the 2020-2021 members of the Gold team, Amelia Robinson, Shea Yeary, Sydney Dohm, Sienna Parsons, Emily Jungman, Madison Kassell and Mia Garcia. Great job this year ladies!
