From Rev. Mary
These are the times that try men's souls. ~ Thomas Paine, December 23, 1776
Those words from Thomas Paine open the pamphlet series titled “The American Crisis” written and published during the American Revolution. I suspect many souls were tried during that time, but that is a different topic altogether.
These times are trying our souls. Some are characterizing this as a war against a virus. I’m not a fan of war imagery and have learned that nature usually wins anyway. This isn’t just in America, it’s around the globe. This is a time when things are certainly upside down, uncertain and chaotic. This is also a time when we work together for the common good so that as many of us as possible can be well, or we don’t. Read more....

Spring Cleaning, With a Purpose
Now that we are physically distancing you may be wondering, “How many books can I read or how much TV/video can I watch?” Some of us are gardening and some are cooking and some are exercising, or all of the above. Well, I have another idea – how about Spring Cleaning? The timing is right and it can even serve as a spiritual practice (see Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”). There are many benefits: Read more....

In the Larger Community
GRUB (Garden Raised Bounty) is looking for community teams to help build garden boxes for low-income families in April and May. Gail Wrede is looking to head a team from OUUC and needs 4-5 team members. The date is to be determined. Team members will spend 2-3 hours on one day to build 3 garden boxes for a low-income family and fill the boxes with dirt. GRUB provides lumber, soil, seeds and a staff member. The team also is expected to raise $1000 for garden build materials, so OUUC members who cannot participate in the build can help by donating funds.
