2020-2021 School Year: Volume 2: Week of September 7, 2020
Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Welcome Back!
Thank you for your support this first week. I thank you for your patience and grace as we ironed out the kinks that came with the first week. The teachers are so impressed with how great the students are adjusting with this virtual start. We know that their success is a direct result of all that the families are doing to make this start a great one for our students.
Families have been asking about the content and the amount of content their students are engaging with each day. This last week teachers spent time evolving their learning communities and establishing their virtual classroom procedures. This week, teachers are starting to pull small groups or 1-on-1 to get some baseline data on their students as learners. Once the teachers have a clearer understanding of their students, as learners, the rigor of the learning will start to increase. I have had a chance to say hello to most classrooms this past week and I am so impressed with how quickly the students are adjusting and I have loved seeing all of their faces too.
We thank you, families, for helping get your children into a routine to help with this smooth beginning of the year. Remember to continue to practice patience, flexibility and grace. I have an open door policy and I believe that through open communication, we will work as a team to create the best school year for your child despite this untraditional start. Do not hesitate to reach out to me should you have a question, comment, suggestion, or in need of a clarification.
Your Proud Principal,
Mrs. Melissa Carruth, Ed.S

School Schedules
A lot of questions have come up about this wondering if their children will have to be online for a full day. Teachers will be accessible for a full day to support your children in both synchronous (face-to-face, like a Google Meet) opportunities and asynchronous (learning activities, software, websites) opportunities.
If you are a hybrid remote student, you ARE required to be present for your morning session or your afternoon session. Attendance is taken at both of these sessions.
Special's Schedule
Grandview Kindergarten: ofcqivi
Grandview 1st grade: rmme3md
Grandview 2nd grade: wate4um
3rd-5th grade received their codes last week. Please refer to their grade level Google Classroom to receive the code.
All content is in the Classwork tab at the top. Happy Learning!
School Hours and Attendance
Attendance IS taken daily. Attendance will be monitored. Truancy laws will be upheld. Under State of Michigan legislation, truancy is defined as a child who has 10 or more unexcused absences per school year. If you are option 1 - hybrid remote, teachers will take a morning and afternoon attendance, just like in brick and mortar. If you are in option 2 - virtual academy. You have a little more flexibility, but daily contact with the teacher is still expected. You can still call into the attendance line to excuse your child, but please do not get yourself into trouble with attendance. Unlike the spring, attendance is mandatory.
Calling all K-3 Students -- complete this survey!!
In compliance with the Read by Grade 3 Law, ALL students in grades K-3 must be assessed in the first 30 days of school in Reading. In Clarenceville, we use the DIBELS assessment. Additionally, the Return to Learn Legislation requires we administer a math and reading assessment within the first 90 days. We normally use the NWEA assessment for this purpose.
We believe assessment results would be most valid if students were assessed IN-PERSON with students attending school in very small groups for one-on-one testing with a teacher. Therefore, we are conducting this survey to determine if IN-PERSON testing would be acceptable for families.
Please note:
- All COVID-19 safety protocols would be followed during testing including 6 ft Social Distancing, mask wearing, disinfecting, and health screenings.
- Attendance during testing would not impact attendance in the live classes. Students would be counted as present.
- Families could bring their JK-3 students from the same family in at the same time for testing.
This week, myself, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Silvernail, Mrs. Cox, and Mr. French will be reaching out to all of you to create a schedule to bring our students into pods or cohorts to run our fall assessments. At this time, we are going to only focus on getting our K-3rd graders coming into the building. Eventually, we will transition into the 4th and 5th graders. Read by Grade Three has very strict guidelines that we need to adhere to. We anticipate the time to be 60-90 minutes for your child to come into the building.
Free Breakfast and Lunch
Since students are not in the building, lunch and breakfast will be served from the high school ON THURSDAY'S. See the attached letter for more information about this.
Curbside meal pick-up for all children 18 and under or any mentally or physically handicapped adults ages 19-26 will take place on Thursdays at Clarenceville High School, Door 21. On most Thursdays, students will be given 7 days’ worth of breakfast and lunch meals. Parents/students can pick up their meals during one of the following service times: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM OR 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. See the 2020-21 First Semester Meal Pick-Up Schedule for a complete list of service dates and the number of meals to
be provided on each date.
If you are in need of food, but cannot get to Grandview for food, please reach out to myself or the Grandview office so that we can help you to get food. I have included another free food resource from Bush's.
School Supplies and Distribution
Below is the pick up schedule. If you have multiple students in your home, please chose the grade level that works best for your family.
Distribution will be done in the front loop of the school. Just like the spring, please stay in your car and include your car pick-up sign or a homemade sign to put in your dashboard to make supply pick-up easier for your family. If you cannot come to school at the time assigned, please reach out to your classroom teacher or the Grandview main office to make alternative plans.
These supplies are VERY important to your child's success whether they are hybrid remote or virtual. Therefore, we expect all families to come to school to pick up the necessary supplies.
I have also included a copy of the school supply list. If you need help with any supplies on the list, please let us know.
On-line Registration for ALL Grandview Students
The enrollment process is 100% on-line. To process the paperwork, you need to log into your child's parent portal site. The parent portal site can be accessed from the main page of the Clarenceville website by clicking on the blue on-line registration button or you can click the following link https://mistar.oakland.k12.mi.us/clarenceville/parentportal/. You will need your PIN number and password. If you do not know it, please contact the Grandview main office at 248-919-0404. For this process, you will be asked and prompted to go through the annual registration forms and approve the forms for this year, as prompted.
If you are new to Grandview, you need to click on the pre-enrollment button (has a pencil) located on the Clarenceville home page.
If you want to enroll on a phone or tablet.....
We now have a mobile version of Mistar that can be used on phones/tablets. It must be downloaded from the Google Play Store or Itunes. I have attached instructions if you would like to share with your parents. With the app a parent can now complete their re-enrollment forms.
Students can also download their Student Connection through Google Play Store or Itunes.
Parents can now can report absences through the app. To report an absence or complete the re-enrollment packet there is a drop down icon that they need to click, I highlighted it in red and attached a screenshot of what it looks like from their perspective.
Once they click they can choose from the options.
The instructions for the app are included below......
Live Online Class Meetings
Thank you to the families that have already filled out this survey. If you have not, please fill out this immediately. The reason for the survey is because teachers, in our remote settings, are asked to record their class meetings. The meetings are then shared with the class within the class learning platform (ie Google Classroom or Zoom) so that students that were absent or those needing a second viewing can review material. Please complete this form to provide consent to have your child's class recorded.
PLEASE COMPLETE ONE FORM PER CHILD. The form is attached!!
