Teacher Highlight! (Livingston School)
This lesson correlated to Standard 2-LS4-1, in which students make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. With the first habitat being forests, students compared and contrasted various types of forests.
Using PearDeck, students discovered the four layers of the forest along with the plants and animals found in each layer.
Students used Accountable Talk to determine what would happen if a layer disappeared and how plants and animals must adapt to survive in their environment.
Towards the end of the lesson, students wore Google Goggles headsets to take their virtual reality experience to the next level by exploring the world that Mr. Rivera created with embedded learning points that students were able to click on and experience. Overall this was a great lesson and I look forward to recreating similar experiences with Ms. Sivori and other students and staff members at Livingston School.

If you are using Quizlet try Quizlet Live!
What is Quizlet Live?
Quizlet Live is a free in-class game where students work in teams to learn study sets on Quizlet. Teams work together to correctly match the terms and definitions in a study set. The first team to match all of their terms and definitions wins!
To begin a game of Quizlet Live, you'll need:
- A Quizlet Account.
- Sign up for Quizlet Live.
- A study set with at least six unique terms and definitions
- At least four students
- A computer, tablet, or mobile device for each student
- 10 to 20 minutes of class time
How it works:
- Students work together in randomized teams of three or four
- Teams race to match all of a set's terms and definitions
- Incorrect answers reset a team's progress to zero
- The first team to match all terms correctly in a row wins
- At the end of the game, teams can see which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly
Teachers in the classroom:
- Can use this to engage students on a topic
- To help support vocabulary
- Build teamwork and collaboration among peers
- To check for understanding on a particular topic
