We Are A.R.M.Y. Strong!!

Each day, we say the Continental Creed: "As a member of the Continental Army, I promise to be Accountable, Respectful, Motivated to Learn, and do mY best." We also remind students of our school goal of achieving a letter grade of a B in three years or less....Students will hear us say "Are you helping us get to a B in 3?" If we all focus on being ARMY Strong every day, we will reach this goal!

No School Monday

EVSC has canceled school on Monday, January 11. All extra-curricular activities are cancelled as well.

After School Programs

After school programs will begin this week. We will be offering Penny Lane Study Cafe Monday - Thursday to offer students the opportunity to retake assessments and get additional support in their classes. We will also be offering Mindcraft Club, Anime Club, Chess Club, Yoga, Hockey, and Magic Gathering Club. Please make sure to make transportation arrangements. Programs end at 4:30pm. Students that participate in program will be able to ride after school bus transportation.

Thinkpads and Thinkpad Cases

Please encourage your child to keep their Thinkpad cases at school. We require students to have their cases to transport their Thinkpad from class to class. This is to protect them as much as possible from any accidental damage. We appreciate your support with this to ensure they have access to the educational tool everyday.

PTSA Winter Formal on January 22nd

Our PTSA has scheduled the Winter Formal for Friday, January 22nd from 6-8pm. This is a great opportunity for the students to get dressed up and enjoy some time together. Boys can wear dress pants, a dress shirt and are encouraged to wear a tie. Ladies can wear dresses or dress pants/skirts. Shoulders must be covered by sleeves or a sweater. All dresses or skirts must be at least finger tip length. Please contact Ms. Branson if you have any questions about the dress code. Also, if you need dresses or dress clothes, have your student see Mrs. Miller. This is one of our favorite events at WMS. The students take pride in dressing up and having a great time.

Award Ceremony for Academic Performance

The award ceremony for second quarter will be this Friday at school. We love to take this opportunity to recognize those students who achieved Distinguished Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, Honor Roll and Academic Improvement. We're excited to report that 40% of our students will receive an award for Academic Improvement this quarter! We're seeing evidence that students are taking assessments seriously, tracking their grades, and taking the time to relearn and retake! This is powerful stuff! Way to work, Continentals!! We're proud of the work you're putting in!!

Doors open at 7:10

With the weather getting colder, please make sure you drop students off after 7:10am. We do not have teachers on duty until then, so please make sure students aren't standing out in the cold waiting for the doors to open.

Cold Weather Items

As the weather gets colder, please remind students to bring a solid color jacket, sweater, or sweatshirt. That means no logos, stripes, etc. It must be a solid color and not have a hood. Students may also wear a solid color long-sleeved t-shirt under their polo or colored shirt. Our classrooms do get chilly, so they will need to have something to throw on. If you need a cold weather item, please see Mrs. Miller. If you have extras or items you're cleaning out, please consider sending those to us for others.

Donate Uniform clothing

If you have uniform clothing your child has grown out of or know of others in the community with uniform clothing, please consider donating to Washington Middle School. We are in need of khakis and polos for emergency situations. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Base Exchange

Students are rewarded with points for displaying behaviors that are Accountable, Respectful, Motivated and showing they are Ready to learn. Students have the opportunity to spend those points for different items at the Base Exchange. Students will be able to order items from the base exchange by going to the Washington website (http://www.edlinesites.net/pages/EVSC_WashingtonMS) and using the Google form to submit their request. Please encourage you children to view the site.

New WMS Grading Policy

If you couldn't attend one of the eight parent meetings on our new grading policy last week, you can find the details of the new system at this link. At any time, you can calculate your child's grade in a class by dividing the number of 3's or 3+'s by the total number of assessments entered into the gradebook. Please know that students can apply to retake any assessments by working to learn the material and applying to the teacher. If you have additional questions, please contact Mr. Merriwether, Ms. Branson or Mrs. Shields.

How is your child doing in classes?

Please support our Continental ARMY and enlist in the PTSA!
