What's Up at Whitney?

5/6/2016 Weekly Update

DARE Dance tonight. Please be prompt at pick up time!

Your NEW School T-Shirt

This is a reminder that in the 2016-17 school year, Whitney's theme is: "BE A READING SUPERSTAR!" Staff members are already developing Hollywood Red-Carpet decorations and ideas for movie-star related activities. An important unifying part of the school wide theme is the T-Shirt that will be worn by all staff and students. Please make sure your student(s) have their purple T-Shirt order form in! If you're not sure, call our office and check. We want all Whitney students to start their school year "dressed for success"!

Asst. Principal Gains Weight During Staff Appreciation Week!

I know, it's not about me.

A big thank you from the entire staff goes out to our PTA, and to all the moms, dads, and grandparents who contributed to Whitney Staff Appreciation Week. Your kindness and generosity helped make all of us feel appreciated. We thank you!

5th Grade Science Projects

This afternoon, our 5th Grade students got a chance to show off their Science Projects. Above and below, you see Whitney students of all ages viewing the results of home experiments and personal research. From 2:30-2:45, parents were invited to visit. We are proud of our young scientists!

Teacher - Classroom Requests

Many hours of planning and sorting go into placing students into specific classrooms. Our students' behavior, ability, maturity, and gender need to be thoughtfully blended to achieve classroom balance. In addition there are specific confidential academic and personal factors that must be considered. Therefore, we ask that you do not make specific teacher requests as the staff will work hard to develop plans for classroom success. Thanks so much for your understanding in this matter.

We’ve had a great, fun year in the cafeteria and we’re looking forward to ending it on the same note. Parents, please make sure your children have enough money on their lunch accounts as we finish the school year. Starting Monday, May 9, the students will no longer be able to charge their lunch. This means that they must have money on their account or bring cash with them to school. We have three of their favorite lunches that week, chicken nuggets, Marco’s pizza, and Nacho Grande, so please keep up with their accounts. We also have snacks available for sale through Thursday, the 19. Remember that any money on their account at the end of the school year does carry over to next year. You do not lose this money. Also, if you have an outstanding balance with the cafeteria, please pay this balance before the last day of school. If you have any questions, please call or email me.

Here are the menus for the last four days of school:

Tuesday, May 17 – Stuffed Crust Pizza

Wednesday, May 18 – Hot Sandwich Day (burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese)

Thursday, May 19 – Chicken Day (nuggets, smackers, fryz, tenders)

Friday, May 20 – pizza lunch provided by PTA

Our grab-and-go breakfast will be available through the last day of school.

Thank you,

Jean Shuleva
