Tiger Talk
09/06/22
Message from the Principal
I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful three-day weekend. I want to take the time to thank each of you for reading through our Tiger Talk each week as there is a ton of new information below.
For those of you whose children walk home from school, we are now walking in two groups. One group walks with a staff member to the crosswalk at Cypress Ranch Blvd and Sabino Drive. The other group walks with a staff member to the intersection of Sabino Drive and Chipotle Pass. That same group also continues with a staff member to the next intersection of Sabino Drive and Verbena Pkwy. We are continuing to ask parents/guardians not to park along Sabino Drive and the WCHE campus fence or across the street.
Thank you and hope to see many of you at our Curriculum Night.
Amy Russ
WCHE Principal

Introducing the West Cypress Hills Staff Members for 2022-23
THIS MONTH IN SECOND STEP:
This month, our schoolwide theme is our school as a welcoming place where every student feels like he or she belongs. In our morning broadcast and classroom guidance lessons, we’ll be reminding students to welcome others and act and speak in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. In addition, we’ll be reminding students of our PAWS Expectations - Practice Safety, Act Responsibly, Work Wisely, and Show Respect. Each day our teachers have carved out a 20-minute time frame to begin the day with SEL (Social Emotional Learning) lesson or class meeting.
- Practice Safety
- Act Responsibly
- Work Wisely
- Show respect
We’ll also begin teaching the Second Step program, which includes lessons that support these behaviors.
Support your child at home in welcoming others and acting and speaking in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. Please tell your child’s teacher if you have questions about specific ways you can help your child with these behaviors at home.
REMINDERS FROM MRS. HARPER
Smart Tag dismissal can be confusing and I am here to help. Please call the office or email me at harperm@ltisdschools.org if you have any questions.
We set the default dismissal for your student at the beginning of the year. If you ever want to change it, you will need to let me or the teacher know. This is how teachers know how students usually get home at the end of their day, and it's the way they determine what dismissal line to put them into at dismissal time.
Dismissal changes (same thing as exceptions) can be made by you whenever you want to
change how your child is going home. You can also make a dismissal change if they are absent. Same day dismissal changes must be completed by 2:00 pm.
**If you have a bus rider, please add a dismissal change for the way your Tiger goes home on the weeks that your route is not available.**
REPLACEMENT TRANSPORTATION TAGS
If your Tiger needs part, or all, of his/her red or green transportation badge replaced, we are happy to make that happen. There is a small charge involved that covers our cost of replacing the missing piece(s.)
$ 5 for the scannable badge
$ 5 for the reel
$10 if the entire tag is lost (both badge and reel)
Your payment and request for replacement go to our Receptionist, Mrs. Michelle Harper. She can accept payment in cash (exact amount only) and by check payable to WCHE.
Seeking Input by September 23 via Lake Travis ISD ESSER Survey
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
As you may already know, Lake Travis ISD applied to receive Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The intent and purpose of the funding is to sustain the safe operation of schools and address student learning needs as a result of COVID-19.
As a part of ongoing ESSER provisions, the District is required to review and revise, as applicable, its plan every six months—including receiving stakeholder input to assist us with prioritizing ESSER funding and developing our Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan.
In an effort to obtain parent and community feedback, we have developed a survey linked below. Please take a moment to share your input and opinions. Responses are due by Friday, September 23, 2022 and will be reviewed and taken into consideration as the District updates its plan. Your participation and feedback are valued and appreciated.

Sincerely,
Marco Alvarado
Executive Director of Communications & Community Relations
Fall Picture Day is Thursday, October 6

Discovery/Gifted and Talented Program - Parent Referrals Due by October 21
Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via this google form.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit their google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator.
Parents can submit referrals for screening up until the end of the first 9 weeks, by October 21, 2022. Students will be tested during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the student will have to wait until the next year's screening opportunity, as the spring screening session is only for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed.
The forms and further information about the program can be found here.
Once the request is submitted through the google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email when the testing dates are set and share additional information. Please plan to attend the Virtual Elementary GT Parent Event on October 14, at 11:30 AM, for an informative presentation about the program along with a Q&A session with your campus GT teacher.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator directly, at any time, with questions. The West Cypress GT coordinator is Ms. Natalie Nowrocki.
Thank you,
Amanda Prehn | Director of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction
