PCMS Weekly Update
December 2, 2023

Good afternoon PCMS Families!
Our friends from PCHS spread a little Holiday Cheer this morning with their annual Winter Choir Tour. We enjoyed several performances from their Concert Choir and Sound Express - if you havenβt heard them before, you are missing out! It was great to see so many of our former students performing. However, the best part was watching our 8th-grade choir take the floor and sing a tune with them! There are only 2 Β½ weeks left until the end of the semester so keep working with your kiddos on their grades and making good choices!
Have a wonderful weekend and GO PIRATES!!
π Check Out What We Did This Week!
Honor Choir had the opportunity to sing at Crown Center on Wednesday. They were amazing!
Nursing students from Missouri Western showed Mr. Johnson's Science class how important thorough hand washing is to prevent the spread of germs!

𧑠This Week's CharacterStrong Focus
Hereβs a quick recap of what we talked about this week in our CharacterStrong sessions - some good stuff right here!
6 Grade practiced Listening. This was the 2nd of 2 sessions focused on listening. Listening is a valuable skill that improves peer relationships and is important for perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and group work. In this session, we practiced identifying good versus bad listening.
7 Grade discussed Stress Strategies. This was the 2nd of 2 sessions on stress and coping. In this session, we focused on coming up with and sharing ways to improve our well-being to help us cope with stress.
8 Grade learned about How Emotions Work. This is the 2nd of 2 sessions on understanding emotions. In this session, we continue learning about how our emotions are natural and happen automatically. Understanding some of the science of emotions can help us improve how we view ourselves and others when strong emotions arise and help lay the foundation for learning emotion regulation skills.
π Pirates in Action
Hereβs a quick recap of our Pirates in action from this past week.
Boys Basketball: On Tuesday, our teams traveled to Bingham Middle School to take on the Bears. We went 2-1 on the night, with the B and C teams coming away with big wins! Thursday night, our teams headed out to Osage Trail Middle School to challenge the Indians. Both A and B Teams lost in close, hard-fought games, while C team came away with a victory!
Girls Basketball: Monday night, we hosted the Bingham Middle Bears. The A and B teams both won their games, and the C team won by forfeit as the Bears were hit with the flu bug. Thursday, C-Team battled hard against Plaza Middle school but ultimately ended the game with their first loss of the season. While A and B Teams played against Osage Trail Middle School, where they dominated the Indians, and both came away with wins!
Wrestling: Wednesday night, we competed at Nowlin Middle School, where we ran into some hammers and came away with a 27-25 record on the night.
Honor Choir: On Wednesday, our Honor Choir traveled to Crown Center to perform for shoppers there. They sounded amazing as they brought the holiday cheer!
π΄ββ οΈ November Pirates of the Month
This week, we recognized our Pirates of the Month for November at our Pirates ROCK assembly. These students were nominated by their teachers for doing it the Pirate Way by showing great character! Our Pirates of the Month were David Royer, Jasmea Sanders, Jade Jones, Maddon Britz (not pictured), Delanee Richardson, and Riley Woodruff. These students receive a certificate, a gift bag with a water bottle, candy, and a DQ gift card. They also get a pizza lunch with a friend and enjoy some time in the game room with the PCHS Got Character Students. Congratulations - weβre super proud of them!
