RE-INTRODUCING OUR HOMEWORK HELP PROGRAM
All 6th - 8th grade students are welcome to attend Homework Help Club, meeting most Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Mrs. Bell supervises the sessions and high school students from Troy High and IA East will be available to provide tutoring and homework support.
KNIGHTS+ ACTIVITIES
This past Tuesday, we held our monthly Knights+ day!
- Sixth graders met with their 8th grade WEB leaders and participated in activities focused on the power of the words we use and how difficult it is to take back hurtful words.
- Our 7th graders Knights+ activity was focused on anti-bullying and specifically on how to be an upstander, rather than a bystander. Officer Lea, our school resource officer, also came in to talk with the 7th graders about the Ok2Say program.
- The 8th grade Knights+ groups discussed time management and learned strategies for prioritizing tasks and budgeting time.
- Next month, 7th grade will focus on time management and 8th grade will participate in the anti-bullying lesson. Sixth grade will continue to progress through the WEB curriculum.
WEB LUNCH
On Monday, our 8th grade WEB leaders met their 6th grade groups for lunch to catch up, answer questions, continue to build connections, and play some games in the cafeteria.
LAST HOME FOOTBALL GAME THIS YEAR
This past Tuesday we celebrated the last home football game on our current Smith field. We held a short assembly to recognize many of the former teachers and coaches that have been a part of our football program over the past 55 years. Our Smith band welcomed students into the gym, our cheer squad impressed with a performance of new stunts they have been preparing, and our football team led the entire school in a breakdown on the 50 yard line. The team then went on to secure a decisive victory over Baker! It was a fun and memorable afternoon. Thank you to Mr. Koneval, Mrs. Casko, and Mr. Hughes for organizing the event!
With construction of our new building beginning this spring, our football games and track meets will be held off site for the next few years. When they return to Smith, we will have a new field and new facilities to enjoy! The district has been working to make sure we have plans in place for practice and competitions as we move forward through the next few fall and spring athletic seasons and to ensure Smith continues to provide high quality athletic experiences for our students. As we enter into each season, we will be sharing our practice and game plans with our families.
IA EAST INFORMATIONAL NIGHT FOR 8th GRADE FAMILIES
International Academy East will be having an informational night for all interested 8th grade families on Thursday, November 9th from 6:00-7:00pm at IA East (1291 Torpey Dr). This event is open to both students and families and will include tours, Q&A, and general information about our program of study. If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact the IA East Principal, Patrick Griffin, at pgriffin@troy.k12.mi.us.
