A Note from Ms. Owens
It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of our second trimester of the school year. Please encourage your students to give their best efforts so they have a strong finish to this marking period.
We have received a thank you from the Women's Center for St. Catherine's generosity during the Baby Bottle Project. The combined efforts of the church and school generated over $4,900 for the Women's Center and the excellent work they do.
The 3 Cs Survey (aka 5 Essentials) is now open for all SCA parents. I highly encourage all families to participate in the survey. Just click on the button below to begin the survey. The survey is a result of a partnership between the Archdiocese and the University of Chicago. All responses will be collected anonymously and will go directly to the university. The school will only receive summaries of the data - not actual responses. The information will help St. Catherine identify our strengths and our potentials areas for growth.
Here's what's coming up this week:
- Tomorrow - All School Liturgy & Adoration
- Monday - Kids Heart Challenge Kick-Off
- Tuesday- Burning of the Palms
- Wednesday - Ash Wednesday Liturgy
- Thursday - Graduation Picture Re-Takes
- Friday - All School Liturgy
Thank you for all you do to support the St. Catherine community!
Peace,
Kristine Owens
A Few Uniform Reminders
As we enter the (hopefully) second half of winter and begin to think about spring, please take a moment to review the uniform expectations for St. Catherine students.
Gym Shoes
Gym shoes may be black, red, white or gray or a combination of those colors. Shoes with any other colors visible are not permitted. Shoelaces are to be black, red, white or gray.
Socks
Only white, red, gray or black socks or combination of those colors are allowed; socks must come above the ankle.
Tights/Leggings
White or black tights are permitted, but slacks, sweatpants, leggings, and flannel pants may not be worn under a uniform skirt or jumper during class hours. If footless tights are worn, socks must cover any exposed skin.Sweatshirts
Students may wear St. Catherine uniform crewneck sweatshirt or fleece. Other sweatshirts, including SCA spiritwear and hooded sweatshirts, are not permitted during the school day but are permitted for outdoor activities such as recess.
South Side Irish Parade - Getting to/from the Parade
FSA will provide bus transportation to and from the South Side Irish Parade. To ensure they have enough seats, FSA asks that you fill out the below form. (It also went home in this week's White Envelopes.) FSA will have a float for the children to ride on.
Please return this form no later than March 6, 2020.
Kids Heart Challenge
Remember how much fun Kids Heart Challenge was last year? And all the good it does for our students, both physically and emotionally? We’re doing it again! More than 50% of kids in this country do not get the physical activity they need and nearly 1 in 5 children is obese. Together, we can change that!
Kids Heart Challenge will kick off soon and you can get a jump on it by registering online today!
1. Click on the button below
2. Click on SIGN UP
3. Choose whether you had an account last year or not
4. Follow the prompts
Once you’ve registered, download the FREE mobile app for iPhone or Android by searching for Kids Heart Challenge. See your Heart Heroes come to life, take selfies with your Heart Heroes, and even raise lifesaving donations from your mobile device.
You’ve been at the heart of our program and your support will continue to make a big difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke by assisting families. Thank you for helping the American Heart Association, which has been supporting schools like St. Catherine for 41 years.
"Keep the Dream Alive" Raffle
Our "Keep the Dream Alive" Raffle has returned!
Tickets are $100 per ticket. Only 2,000 tickets are sold.
Grand Prize Raffle is May 3, 2020 after 9:00 AM mass.
Early Bird Raffles are March 6 and April 3 At 6:00 PM at the Fish Fry. There will be two (2) tickets for $1,000 each pulled at each Fish Fry.
Tickets are sold after all the Masses on weekends, in the school office, in the rectory, through Ticket Captains and on GiveCentral.
We strongly encourage each family to sell at least three (3) tickets. This is an opportunity to ask friends, family members and work colleagues for their support. Sharing the purchase of a ticket is another way to participate. As it is the school families who will directly benefit from this raffle, we are asking each family to work to sell as many tickets as possible.
After selling three (3) tickets, school families will receive one chance in our school-only tuition incentive raffle for each Dream raffle ticket they sell. As long as the raffle is a sell-out success, you will have a chance at winning a tuition credit of $4,950 for the 2020-2021 school year! To be qualified for this raffle, your family name must be listed as ticket seller.
New this year, all families that sell five (5) will receive a Golden Ticket Dress Down pass for all children in the family. Golden Ticket Dress Down passes can be used any day that is NOT a field trip day or Mass day.
All buyers must be over 18 years of age to win.
All prize winnings in the raffle and tuition incentive are subject to taxes. An order form to purchase tickets is available at the button below. Please return all order forms with payment to the school office. Tickets will then come home each week in the White Envelope.

February Specials - Sweet Heart Feature
Tuesday Hot Lunch Ordering
The link for placing hot lunch orders is below. Please remember that ordering closes at noon the day before delivery.
There will, of course, be days when parents have ordered a hot lunch and their child is absent. On those days, parents (or another designated person) are welcome to pick up the child's lunch. In order for this to happen, parents must notify the school of the hot lunch pick-up prior to 11 AM and then the actual lunch must be picked up before 12:30 PM. We cannot keep lunches beyond that or send them home with students due to food safety regulations.
