Monk Fryston Weekly News 13.1.23

The school target for next week is;

remember to show kind words and actions.

Garden Design Competition Winners.

Congratulations to the winners of our Garden Design Competition. We were so impressed with all the entries, but felt that the 2 winning designs stood out because of the attention to detail, colour and shape. Well done everyone who took part.

Dogs Trust

Thank you to everyone who supported the charity day for the Dog’s Trust today. The girls in Year 6 that organised the event did an amazing job, and are very grateful for your support.

You will have seen the letter from Public Health this week. We are aware that there are a number of illnesses that are being transmitted locally, so please remain vigilant for signs of infection in your child. UKHSA advice remains clear that children can continue to attend as normal unless they are unwell and have a high temperature.

Careers Fair.

We enjoyed a wonderful careers fair on Tuesday. Thank you to all the parents who gave up their time to talk about their profession, and to Mrs Stevens who organised the day. We know that the children were really inspired by what they heard and we hope this helps to make them aware of the possibilities for their future careers.

Parking Issues.

It has become obvious that some parents are parking in the school entrance. This is obviously unsafe and unacceptable, and we will continue to report issues to the authorities.

Meet our School Council.

PTA '100 Club'

We are pleased to have launched our PTA ‘100 Club’.. This is a joint venture between the PTA and the Friends of Saxton School to raise funds for both organisations – please see the rules email in December. We expect this to be popular and should result in big prizes being awarded each month. Numbers can be purchased from ParentPay now.

Selby Music Centre.

Selby Music Centre is run by North Yorkshire County Music Service and meets at Selby High School on Saturday mornings from 9.30 am – 12.20pm. Currently, we have 4 different ensembles.

We can offer you a free half term of sessions to get you started!

'Strings'n'things' runs from 9.30 to 10.45 and is for complete beginners up to grade 1 on violins, violas, cellos, guitars and a few keyboards. If you don't yet learn an instrument, let me know and we can lend one to you!

Folk group runs from 9.30 – 10.45 and is for guitar players, from those who know a few chords up to more advanced musicians, plus woodwind players, violinists and keyboard players from about grade 1 upwards.

Selby Youth Choir is from 11.05 – 12.20 and is a great opportunity for anyone of primary school age to sing in a choir, led by an experienced choral conductor.

Senior Strings is from 11.05 – 12.20 and is for players of violin, viola, cello and bass from approximately grade 2 to grade 5.

During the break, our Friends group runs a tuck shop, and you can choose a free sweet treat on your first visit!

Please get in touch with any queries and to let me know if your son or daughter would like to come along.

Many thanks,

Helen Moulds
