First Week!

There is nothing more exciting to the staff at Lakeview than the first day of school. If you could see inside our walls, you would see the excitement and care of a family coming together. We had a great first few days of school. Consider sending a teacher a quick "thank you" email. It goes a long way. We certainly thank all of our families for a great first week!

Are you wondering what to ask your child about each day of school? Try these two:

1. What questions did you ask today? (Celebrate your child's curiosity and thirst for knowledge)

2. What did your teacher do or say today that was funny? (It shows that your child is developing a relationship with his/her teacher and noticing those moments)

Try asking these - or other questions - every day. If you keep asking the same question or two every day, your child will see what is important to you and your family. Getting your child (especially our youngest children) to remember every moment of their day is probably impossible, as much as we want to know as parents. But a few open-ended questions like those above work well.

School Pictures on Sept 8

Pictures for yearbooks will be taken on Wednesday, September 8th. Here is the link to pre-order pictures. This link will also be on the Lakeview website. If you have any questions about pictures, please contact the photographers using the contact information in the link above. They are very easy to work with. A pdf version of their flyer is linked below.

Attendance stats for this week

We had very good attendance this week at Lakeview - thank you! Here are a few things to remember:

• Doors open at 8:25 and school starts at 8:30.

• Students need to stay the entire day until 3:35 dismissal to count as a full day of attendance. Late arrivals and early pickups count towards truancy.

• If you are going to pick up your child early, send a note or call ahead in the morning. If you show up unannounced, it will take us a while to get your child to the office.

• Remember that you should always get a note from the doctor, dentist, or other provider excusing absences so they do not count towards truancy.

Here is the letter that was mailed to all families in August about attendance and here is a link to the school calendar for the year.

Extra Clothes for Students?

Students get messy - we all know that. We suggest that all students have an extra outfit in their locker for times like this - especially any students in 4K, 5K, 1st, and 2nd grades. Just find some old clothes, put them in a grocery bag, and send them in a backpack. We really do not have many extra clothes in the office and students are much happier if they can put their own clothes on instead of something from our limited collection.

Covid Isolation/Quarantine Decisions for 2021-22

This info about COVID protocols was sent previously. We are still in the midst of a pandemic and one of our most important mitigation strategies is isolation/quarantine decisions when students show symptoms. Please know that if a student is COVID positive in a classroom and was present while positive, we will quickly transition that classroom to virtual learning. Absences due to COVID protocols imposed by the district will NOT count towards attendance or truancy. We want everyone to stay healthy and safe, so please stay home if sick.

Our district health team will call or email when they have questions. Please respond to them quickly so our students can be in school as much as possible.

Medications at School

If your child needs to take a prescription medication during the school day, you and the provider must complete this form. Please note - this includes inhalers, which are prescription medications. Medication may not be transported or kept in backpacks, lockers, or on students themselves. All medication (including inhalers) must be kept in the health room in an original container from the pharmacy and may not be dispensed without this form on file.

If you have other questions about health services in SDSM, please see this link.

Background Checks

Although we cannot have volunteers in our building right now, it is good to keep your volunteer background check up to date. You only need to complete it once every other year. The process is very simple - take a moment to complete it now by going to this page on the Lakeview website.

Looking for a part-time job?

We have two openings for Special Education paraprofessional positions open at Lakeview. They are both 5.5 hours/day (plus a 30-minute lunch). They do not include benefits. If you or someone you know would like to be part of an amazing team of educators, please apply on WECAN as soon as possible by clicking this link.
