Leander ISD Counseling Services
Second Step Home Link-October 2018
This month, our elementary Second Step theme is empathy. Students will be learning to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
Please tell your child’s teacher or counselor if you have any questions about how you can help your child learn to identify feelings and show empathy and compassion at home.
October Second Step Lessons
All Leander ISD students will grow his/her Empathy and Emotion Management through several lessons during the month of October. The Home Links for each lesson describe why empathy is important and include fun activities to do with your child to help him or her identify feelings and practice showing empathy and compassion. We hope you find them helpful.
Click on each lesson to view the available Home Link activities. Please note, due to specific campus events, some campuses may not be covering all of these lessons this month.
It’s a nonstop, busy world. Mind Yeti was developed by mindfulness and social-emotional learning experts to be an easy way to take a purposeful pause.
