Explain Montresor's Betrayal: Montresor betrayed Fortunato because Montresor explains in lines 1&2 "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could; but when he ventured upon insult..." as well as in paragraph 22 " A huge human foot d'or, in a field azure; the foot crushes the serpent rampant whose fangs are imbedded in the heel..."
And the motto was "nemo me impune lacessit" which translated means no one can injure me without impunity
