Lifelines of the Month
Kindness - to be helpful and caring
Common Sense - to use good judgment
Responsibility - to respond when appropriate; to be accountable for your actions
Be sure to discuss these at home and integrate them into your at-home language - you'll be impressed at how quickly they remember the definitions and follow through!

Teacher Tips!
Your child is busy learning so much new information each day in school. This week, ask your child to teach you something he/she has recently learned. It can be something to do with reading, writing, math, science, Lifelines, anything! The best way to really learn something is to teach it to someone else. Ask questions to assure you understand. It is a great way to connect with your child’s learning.
Let your child know you are aware of the Lifelines and “catch” your child using these skills. The Ellettsville Library has put out a special basket of books that relate to these Lifelines. Go and check one of these books out and share it as a family.
- Rhyming is an important skill in learning to read. Rhyming is also a lot of fun! There are a lot of ways families can use rhyming at home to help children with reading. Find books that have rhymes in them. Dr. Seuss is a great example. Make up your own rhymes, some can be silly. Write down a few simple rhyming words. Point out to your child that the end of the word is the same. Point to the first letters and say it together. When it changes, you make a rhyme! For example: pat, sat, cat. If this is too easy, try harder words.
