A few quick things about this week...
Reading
*Please remind your child to be submitting their Reading Book Logs when finished an independent reading book! I want to make sure everyone gets credit towards their reading goal of 6 books per trimester!
What you can do: Have a conversation with your child about their independent reading. Book conversations can include:
- A summary of what your child is reading
- A conversation about their characters - a contrast & contradiction or an again and again, How is your character changing/growing in your book?, What are some of the character's strengths/weaknesses and why?
- A brief read aloud of their book.
- Ask if they have found any new "robust vocabulary" words to add to their bookmark.
Be sure to check in with your child regarding their independent reading... It is the beginning of a new trimester, so our goal is to read 5-6 books!
Writing
We will be working on developing our Sixth Grade Assessment questions this week. We will be reviewing past sixth grade assessment questions, analyzing sample writing pieces, and working toward developing our own questions based on our presearch. ALL TOPIC/SUBTOPIC QUESTIONS WILL BE DUE BY FRIDAY.
What you can do: Discuss your child's sixth grade assessment presearch with them.
Science ~ Volcano PowerPoints & Pollution
We will be practicing our presentation skills as we work collaboratively to develop PowerPoint presentations on volcanoes using Office 365. Students will be presenting their research on TUESDAY to get feedback to further improve and practice their presentation skills.
We will be starting our next science unit on pollution this week as well. Students will be developing a community based on needs and wants for us to analyze the effects of pollution next week.
Ask me about: What are elements of a successful PowerPoint presentation?
What you can do: Ask your child to practice presenting focusing on eye contact and use of his/her presentation voice.
