Spirit Week Next Week!
Student Council has planned a spirit week with different themes for each day next week to help kick start Winter Break! Here is the schedule for next week:
12/13 Monday: Holiday Spirit Day (sweaters, holiday colors, etc.)
12/14 Tuesday: Crazy Sock Day
12/15 Wednesday: Mix Match Day (polka dots, stripes, different patterns, etc.)
12/16 Thursday: Sports Day
12/17 Friday: Pajama Day

Aspen Celebrates Inclusive Schools Week!
Free Digital Library Access and Books for All CA Students
We’re excited to share that the California Department of Education (CDE) is offering the Gift of Literacy by partnering with Renaissance Learning to ensure that every California student can access thousands of engaging digital reading resources for free during winter break by visiting www.myon.com.
From December 1, 2021, to January 31, 2022, any California student can benefit from free access to thousands of myON books in English and Spanish. Students can also read myON daily news articles in English, Spanish, or French. Content downloaded during the two-month period will be still be available when access the window closes.
Students who are not already reading with myON may participate in this exciting partnership by following these simple steps to log in and start reading:
- Go to www.myon.com and click on “myON login”
- Sign in using the single statewide shared account credentials
- School Name: Gift of Literacy
- Username: myon
- Password: read
- Select a book or news article and start reading!
This is a great opportunity for CA families to create a lifelong love of reading and encourage them to access the school or local library moving forward.
COVID-19 Mobile Vaccine Clinic for Individuals Ages 5+
There will be a "pop-up" COVID-19 Mobile Vaccine Clinic this Saturday, December 11th from 1pm-4pm in the parking lot of the Conejo Valley Unified School District's Educational Center located at 1400 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks. The Pfizer vaccine will be available for individuals who are five years of age and older. This Vaccine Clinic is hosted by COVID CLINIC in partnership with the California Department of Public Health. Walk-ins are welcome the day of the event OR families may schedule appointments in advance, via the below links:

Interested in becoming a Campus Safety Assistant?
We are still in need of any interested adults to work morning or afternoon shifts to cover our recess, lunch, and afternoon recess shifts. Please contact Stacey Coombe, our Office Manager, if you are interested in this opportunity!
Parking Lot Reminders
Here are some reminders to assist us in keeping our students safe in the parking lot:
- Stay in the right hand lane, move all the way forward, and ONLY drop your student off from the right side of the vehicle .
- Do not allow your child to walk unattended between cars.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended in the drive-thru lanes.
- Do not block intersections along Oberlin Avenue while waiting to enter the parking lot.
COVID-19 Resources for Families
Parent Representatives Still Needed
We are still looking for parents to serve as representatives on our district's Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) committee, District English Learner Advisory Council (DELAC), African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC), and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning and Others Advisory Council (LGBTQ+ AC) . Please email me if you are interested in serving as an Aspen parent representative on one of these committees. Please know that there is a commitment to attend their monthly meetings.
PFA Announcements
Join us at the December PFA Meeting!
Find out what Aspen’s PFA is planning in the next few months! We will discuss how funds raised at this year's Jogathon will be used. If you have ideas please join us at our meeting on Tuesday, December 14th at 7 pm in the Aspen MPR. Masks must be worn. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and to find out how you can help make Aspen the best it can be! Hope to see you there!
Aspen's 2nd Annual Care and Share Event Continues Through Wednesday, 12/15!
Aspen's annual Care and Share food drive runs through December 15th. For every item donated, a paper link will be added to the Aspen fence. Let's see how many links we can put up this year! Last year we had almost 950 links in our chain. Let's try to get one more!
Boxes for donations will be at the main gate. Please consider donating something this year! Thank you!

School Cents
Thank you for your generous support of The Oaks Holiday Toy Drive benefiting the Children’s Auxiliary Services of Ventura County which supports children in foster care. We also received over 25,000 School Cents points because of your generosity.
Holiday gifts? Gift cards? Dinner from one of the restaurants on The Oaks Mall property? The School Cents Program is currently offering 20 points per dollar spent from now until January 15! School Cents is a competition between Aspen and other local schools. Every time you shop or dine at The Oaks Mall from September 1 through April 30, we can earn up to $2,500 for Aspen! To help raise money for Aspen, please drop your Oaks receipts in the new School Cents Box in the office. Or you can visit shoppingpartnership.com/theoaks/ and follow the instructions to submit your receipts. You can also email an image of your receipt to aspenschoolrewards@gmail.com and we will submit it for you.
