Cedar Grove Friday Flash
October 30, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
We are excited to share that last Monday, Cedar Grove was selected to be the highlighted school on the Kojo for Kids Show. As it so happens, Kwame Alexander, the author of The Undefeated and co-author of the newly published Becoming Muhammad Ali (among many other titles), was being interviewed. Our students called in with some incredibly thoughtful questions and impressed both Mr. Alexander and Kojo with their respect and confidence. Here is the link to the show if you would like to listen to the recording. Thank you to our students who represented Cedar Grove with their participation!
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has asked teachers of students in Grades kindergarten through 12 to provide opportunities to teach and discuss the democratic process in light of the upcoming presidential election. These short lessons will take place during morning meeting times in classrooms, and conversations will focus on the electoral process. Teachers will not be sharing or discussing personal political views. Please click here to see the letter to parents from MCPS regarding the teaching goals for students.
As we are near the end of the first marking period, parents will be able to view their child's report card grades in the ParentVUE in Synergy on November 17. If you have an active ParentVUE account, you will not receive a report card in the mail. Parents who do not have their accounts activated yet will receive their child's report card in the mail.
Our CGES Story Book Character Pumpkin Extravaganza. was a great success! Our talented student artists chose a favorite storybook and created amazing pumpkins decorated as a character from their book. Thank you to all our students who shared a picture of their pumpkin, and special thanks to Mrs. Hirschhorn for organizing this fun event and for creating the video.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Holds to Go at Cedar Grove ES - Updated Information
We have had a busy month of processing holds and book returns, and nothing makes my heart happier.
Holds to go is going to be a bit different November 4, because there is no school. If you have books on hold for the next pickup (you should receive an email Friday, October 30 if you do), then please fill out the survey that will let Mrs. Hirschhorn know when you intend to come by. Thank you.

I cannot believe we are about to start November and virtual learning! Here is your November Media Monthly in a new format, loaded with information for our community, including videos, the November Media Events calendar, and information about the November 4 Holds to Go. Although the Media Monthly is shared to anyone with a link, many of the resources are bound to the mcpsmd.net access. This is for proprietary reasons because I share a lot of copyright materials and resources that are limited to educational platforms such as mcpsmd.net.
Art, Music, and PE Newsletter
