second semester

Campo students finished the first semester strong and we applaud our students for all the hard work they put in over the last eighteen weeks. We know many students and families have faced some unique challenges and circumstances and are so proud of you all for your perseverance and grit.

As we move into the new semester, all students should log into Infinite Campus

on Monday, January 3rd to review their second semester schedules. Please note any changes in teacher or room numbers, as we have had a few staffing changes.

Students are to follow their second semester schedules beginning Tuesday, January 4th. If there is a need for a schedule correction, due to one of the following reasons, please see your counselor on Tuesday during the hour that you have the issue.

  1. Missing a class

  2. Scheduled into a class that you have already taken

  3. Incorrect level

  4. Missing a required course

ECAP Presentation

ECAP: Four Year Plan

All students have seen a presentation about ECAP (Education-Career Action Plan) in their Advisory class. We have attached a copy of the slide show here for your reference. Part of the presentation shows students how to enter their four-year plan for classes into the Infinite Campus Academic Planning feature. ALL students must have their plan entered by May of this school year. It is from this planner that all course requests will be filled. Again, please review these choices with your child to ensure that it is accurate and complete. These plans may be changed as students learn more about themselves and their plans for the future. The classes entered for sophomore year will be locked in February.

If you or your child have any questions, we encourage you to contact the assigned counselor. We are happy to help in this process.

French Club

French-Canadian Culture Day Comes to Campo!

On Thursday, December 9th, French students capped off their study of French-speaking Quebec by sampling the national fast-food of Canada - Poutine. This is a dish similar to nachos - but its base is made of French Fries which are then smothered in a slew of different toppings. Traditionally they would be covered in brown gravy and cheese curds. Toppings now include bacon, pork, chicken, chili, vegetables, cheese sauce and so much more. The Great American Poutine Company brought this delicious opportunity to Campo. They opened their food truck for students to purchase their favorite options. Students greeted this cultural lesson with enthusiasm. Photos below show the food truck and line of eager students; a close up of poutine with gravy, cheese, bacon, and sour cream; and senior Madi Call, sophomores Alyssa Reiman and Kirsten Miller-Jackson, and junior Travis Wright showing off their poutine choices. Vive Le Canada!

The Société Honoraire de Francais and French Club Savor the Season

French holiday traditions were the focus of the December meeting of the National French Honor Society and French Club. The center of the celebration (both in French-speaking countries around the world and in the club meeting) was the traditional Christmas cake - La Buche de Noel. This is a tradition reaching back into the Middle Ages. Local castle lords would drag in the biggest tree stump possible and set it alight in the castle fireplace. As long as this log burned, the castle hosted an "open house" - free food, drink, and music - for all the surrounding villagers. Over the centuries, this spirit of hospitality was reimagined as a log cake - a jelly roll- style cake decorated to look like that Yule Log of old. This cake is served in almost every French-speaking family home on Christmas Eve. Club members received the recipe to try at home but the cake in the photo below was created by a long-time friend of CVHS - Dr. Joni Koehn. Chocolate frosting marked by the tines of a fork create the "log effect" and meringue mushrooms, sprigs of rosemary and jellybean "mistletoe" berries finish the look. The second photo shows club members Nate Blake, Anthony Cole, and Jane LaSpaluto wrestling for the last few pieces! The gift exchange and caroling were also part of the meeting fun. New members are still welcome to join. Our next meeting will explore French Impressionism on Thursday, January 13th from 2:30 - 4:00 pm in Portable 06. Students can ask questions or pick up permission slips from Madame Fry anytime.
