Lansdowne Elementary School
October Newsletter ~ 2020
Principal's Message
With the weather getting colder, we can feel Autumn in the air. The days are certainly different, and school has been in session for over five weeks now. It might feel longer than that, but Lansdowne would like to thank the parents and grandparents for all that you have done to make virtual learning a success!! Teachers are also working so very hard to engage students in rigorous instruction and ensure materials/assignments are accessible and user friendly. Most importantly kudos to our amazing students who show us the definition of perseverance and positivity day in and day out!
Coming up at the end of October is Red Ribbon Week. This is one of the largest anti-bullying and drug prevention campaigns in the country. We will be adding a little Fall fun to the week and will have a theme for each day to celebrate and promote anti-bullying and drug-free awareness (with a Fall Twist)!
#ListenToUsROAR
Wishing you all the best,
Principal McBride

A Note from Nurse Lowman
DON’T LET THE FLU GET YOU
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are advising that getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself and the people around you from flu, and to help reduce the strain on healthcare systems responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While seasonal influenza (flu) viruses are detected year-round in the United States, flu viruses are most common during the fall and winter. The exact timing and duration of flu seasons can vary, but influenza activity often begins to increase in October. Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although activity can last as late as May.
October is a great time to get your flu vaccine. In addition to your doctor’s office, local pharmacies (like CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid) and local retail stores (like Walmart, Giant and Target) offer flu vaccines.
The Baltimore County Department of Health will also be offering free flu vaccines to all Baltimore County residents at the Timonium Fairgrounds on Saturday October 18th and Sunday October 19th. No appointment is necessary.
Stay well,
Nurse Lowman
