What's Happening at STE?
From the Principal's Desk
We know natural disasters affect many people in many different ways. You can expect your children will spend time debriefing with their teachers on Thursday and Friday, along with reviewing safety procedures and drills. The district has gone through great measures to ensure each school is prepared to have students return. These checks were not only structural, but included alarms, internet, lock down systems and water tests. We were lucky! Students were not in the building at the time of the big earthquake and our building had very minor damage, we do not have much of mess to pick up.
For information on other schools please check www.matsuk12.us/earthquake for daily updates.
Our water, though tested safe in initial testing, still has more tests to pass. PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD WITH A FULL WATER BOTTLE for the remainder of the week as we will not be drinking from the fountains or sinks. We did have water delivered for refills if needed!
There are so many ways to communicate these days. Earlier this month, I surveyed parents on the best method of communication. Results showed some use Facebook, some only read papers sent home, others email and text. During the earthquake, many decisions had to be made quickly and there was not a lot of time to communicate through various outlets. If you did not receive an email or text from the school stating that it was cancelled for the day shortly after the earthquake, we do not have a good email or cell phone number for you. Please email or call the school with current information to be sure you always get the information as soon as possible.
The field trip to the Nutcracker is rescheduled for tomorrow. We will leave school at 10:15 and be back at 1:00. We must have confirmation that all students can go on this date. Please email emily.austin@matsuk12.us or call the office with a confirmation that your child can or can not go.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you have!

A Note From Mrs. Fisher
Hello Sutton Families,
I hope this message finds all of you safe and well after the excitement of Friday morning. I’m thrilled to have an opportunity to give you a brief update of what has been going with your children during Specials.
Physical Education is scheduled for Monday and Thursday each week but as field trips, concerts and missed school days happen we sometimes make a change to the schedule. P.E. has been full of fun activities for your children. The beginning of the year started with a really fun football unit. Many of the children that started the unit quite hesitant, ended up having a fabulous time learning and excelling in their skills. We have also enjoyed a brief basketball unit with the older children and parachute unit with the little ones. We’ve spent a lot of time in all the grades playing Seasonal Team Building games that are educational, active and fun. All grades have been working on locomotion skills, team work, sportsmanship, nutrition, and responsibility. For the remainder of December during P.E. we will be playing Cooperative Seasonal games. Please remind your children to wear their P.E. shoes because having “safe feet” is important!
Music is scheduled for Tuesday and Friday but as our Christmas concert is right around the corner (December 18th at 6:30), we will be spending more time in the music room the next couple of weeks. Since the beginning of the year we have been learning proper rhythm, instrument families and listening to and singing a variety of music. At the beginning of second quarter we began working on seasonal music as well as our music for the Christmas concert. Please remind your children to work hard during our practice times in the music room, so we can all have a fabulous Christmas concert.
Library is scheduled for every Wednesday. Thank you for helping your children be diligent in returning their library books on-time and in good condition.
I look forward to seeing all of you at our Christmas Concert on December 18th. The children have asked me what they should wear for the concert and I have told them Christmas colors would be great but my biggest request is for the young ladies NOT to wear heels for their own safety and the safety of others. J Wishing all of you and yours a beautiful holiday season.
Congratulations to Ms. Rowley!
