WEEK #9, Cambrian School District, 10.13.21
Dear Cambrian Community,
Hello families! We are halfway through our 9th week of school and our students are making remarkable progress. We love to celebrate all the incredible achievements of our students over the past two months--BRAVO to each of our school sites and distance learning programs for outstanding growth. (Special thanks to Bagby kindergarten student Ethan for helping us with our WEEK #9 photo, below!)
COLD AND FLU SEASON IS APPROACHING
October means we are quickly approaching cold and flu season. As we know, cold and flu symptoms overlap with COVID-19 symptoms, making this next season tricky for all of us. I appreciate your partnership in keeping our schools safe and open. In order to do this, we will need to continue to work together. I want to acknowledge the challenges of the testing requirements in order to rule out COVID-19 and appreciate the continued support and efforts of our families.
Making healthy choices at school and at home can help keep students healthy. Please take these precautions:
Keep your child home if he/she is sick. You will help prevent others from catching the illness. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Encourage your child to avoid touching his/her eyes, nose, or mouth. Germs spread this way.
Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill.
YARD DUTY
Several of our schools would benefit from more supervision during recess and lunch. If you enjoy helping children solve problems, are proficient in opening a variety of food packaging and are looking for something fun to do during your day, please reach out to your child’s school to get started in the process of becoming Cambrian School District yard duty staff!
Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, principal or myself if you have any questions or concerns. We truly appreciate your input, support and partnership.
Have a great week!

Childhood Vaccines and Wellness
The 2021-2022 school year is well under way. It is important that childhood vaccinations and tuberculosis (TB) assessments are up to date. Vaccinations are crucial to prevent children from getting sick outside of school settings. Vaccinations are still required for school admission. Families should take steps now to get required childhood vaccinations and TB assessments.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
• Vaccinations will prevent an estimated 21 million hospitalizations and 732,000 deaths among children born in the last 20 years
• There were several outbreaks of measles and whooping cough in recent years. These diseases are extremely contagious and can be very serious, especially for babies and young children. Over 25% of children younger than five years old who had measles had to be hospitalized for conditions that can lead to pneumonia, brain damage, deafness, and death.
While the new school year will look different than in past years, some things will stay the same.
• Immunization requirements remain in place for admission to school or childcare as well as for students advancing to the 7th grade in California. Visit https://www.shotsforschool.org/ to review the required vaccinations, and then schedule an appointment with your health care provider for a well-child visit to obtain any needed vaccinations.
• If your child is enrolling in a Santa Clara County school or childcare for the first time, your child will also need a TB risk assessment and, if necessary, a TB test. Visit https://www.sccgov.org/sites/phd/DiseaseInformation/TbResources/Documents/ra-schoolentry.pdf for information and forms.
TB risk assessments and TB tests may be completed when your child receives his/her vaccinations for school or childcare. If your child’s vaccinations are already up-to-date, you can complete the TB risk assessment and the TB test, if needed, with your child’s health care provider at any time within the first 30 days of your child’s enrollment in school or childcare.

Housing Support Request for the 2021-2022 School Year
We are so thrilled to have students back on campus to support and educate. The impact of COVID-19 continues to remain with us as we adapt our educational practices in meeting the needs of our students, family, and community that we serve. Knowing that the pandemic’s impact is broad and changing in ways that we may not fully realize, this communication is being sent to identify any supports that your student may be entitled to under the McKinney-Vento legislation.
If your housing situation has recently changed please complete this survey: https://bit.ly/CSDhousingchange and we will be sure to reach out to you. If your housing situation meets the criteria identified by the Cambrian School District’s Housing Questionnaire and your child is eligible, we can provide additional supports throughout the school year. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s development.
COVID-19 Asymptomatic Screening
We are partnering with California’s Valencia Branch Laboratory and Color (their registration system) to bring no cost, asymptomatic COVID-19 screening testing to our students and staff. Your child may also get COVID-19 asymptomatic testing from your healthcare provider or from the Free Santa Clara County COVID-19 Testing Sites.
For the month of October, our testing program will be on Wednesdays, from 1-3:00 PM at the Cambrian School District Office. As we determine the interest in screening testing, we will adjust our schedule. This is one tool in supporting a safe return to school.
If you are interested in having your child participate in the COVID-19 Asymptomatic screening program, please follow the steps below. You must register at least 24 hours before the test.
