AUGUST 24, 2022 - NEWSLETTER
Greetings, Park Terrace Elementary!
We’ve had the opportunity this week to welcome some of our new kindergarteners into our school for Kinder Camp! As I walked some of them down to their classroom, it was wonderful to see them so full of excitement and joy as they meet a teacher or new friends. I am so proud to be a small part of that wonder and joy. Thank you to our staff members who are creating this space for our kindergarteners to learn and grow before the official school year starts.
As we continue to prepare for the new school year, I am feeling that excitement build! This week, in addition to our kindergarteners, we welcomed new staff into Spring Lake Park Schools and Park Terrace Elementary. We are welcoming:
- Ms. Moua - Second Grade Teacher
- Mr. Menge - Fourth Grade Teacher
- Mr. Gagner - Third Grade Teacher
- Ms. Woehrle - Kindergarten Teacher
- Ms. Thao - Kindergarten Teacher
- Ms. Miskowic - Academic Specialist
- Ms. Hanzel - Academic Specialist
- Ms. Mullaly - Case Manager
On behalf of our entire school: Welcome! I truly can’t wait to see how our new staff members make a positive difference in the lives of our students.
Next week, all of our staff return to school to engage in professional learning and to prepare for the school year. Our students, meanwhile, will no doubt be excited to find out who their teacher will be! Be sure to check Campus Parent Portal at the end of the day on Monday, August 29 to find your student’s teacher and watch your email for a welcome message.
As a reminder, our Meet and Greet event will be Wednesday August 31, 4-6 p.m. This will be a great opportunity for students to meet their teacher in person and to explore the school. To create the time and space for families to meet their teacher, we are requesting that students with last names starting with A-M come from 4-5 p.m. and students with last names starting N-Z come from 5-6 p.m.
This week’s newsletter includes a lot of great information and reminders as we gear up for the start of school. Take a look, and please be sure to let us know if you have any questions. Most importantly, be sure to enjoy these last few days of summer! We can’t wait to see you all soon!
Sincerely,
Mona Perkins
Principal
Park Terrace Elementary
Updates from the Health office
As we begin the school year, the public health context is, thankfully, quite different than the past two school years. We have and continue to follow guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health and they align to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
COVID-19 related guidance has been significantly relaxed for schools as we enter a new school year. There are a few updates for families:
- Communicate illnesses: Please continue to update the school nurse if your child tests positive for a communicable illness such as flu or COVID-19. The nurse will provide information on return to school. Please stay home if you are sick.
- COVID-19 at-home tests: At-home COVID-19 antigen tests are available in the health office for those who request them. No other testing will be done at school.
- Immunizations and vaccines: Now is the time to make sure your child is up to date on all recommended immunizations. Getting vaccinated is an important tool to keep our students safe and healthy while they are in school. The pandemic has caused a number of disruptions in people’s lives, and many children have fallen behind on getting recommended vaccines. Children and teens can get COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines they need at the same visit. See the Minnesota Department of Health information on vaccines for infants, children and adolescents. See our website for more immunization information.
Find the Spring Lake Park Schools 2022-2023 Safe Return to In-Person Learning Plan online. Access Minnesota Department of Health's website for the latest guidance for schools, child care, parent and caregivers. MDH COVID-19 Public Hotline continues to be available at 1-833-431-2053.
