Staff Recognition Program
To show our appreciation for certificated and classified employees, the Board of Directors look forward to continuing the staff recognition program for the 2021-22 school year. We are proud that our staff goes above and beyond for the children in the Stanwood-Camano School District.
Nominations for a Certificated or Classified Employee of the Month are accepted September through March for recognition at the building level with board, administration, and sponsor participation. One certificated and one classified employee are selected monthly from the nominations, coordinated by our program sponsor, Heritage Bank. All monthly award recipients will be considered for the Certificated and Classified Employee of the Year awards presented in May. Nominations are welcome from parents, community members, peers, administrators, and students.
Please let us know about some of the great deeds our staff are doing! Share personal examples of the dedication, commitment and passion these individuals have portrayed working for the Stanwood-Camano School District. Click on the link below to nominate an individual; give personal examples of why you believe this individual deserves recognition and share how they inspire others.
EMPLOYEE NOMINATION
Heritage Bank sponsors our employee recognition program in partnership with Stanwood and Camano Island area businesses.
Thank you!
News from our Learning Assistance Program (LAP)
Dear Parents and Guardians,
During the month of September, we are administering the reading benchmark assessments for all students at Cedarhome Elementary School. If your child qualifies for the Learning Assistance Program (LAP), you will receive the following items in the mail at the end of September: green trifold explaining LAP, an entrance letter into LAP, and a yellow compact, which needs to be signed and returned to your child's teacher. We like to think of LAP as reading tutoring for your child in a small group setting based on explicit reading instruction. Cedarhome Elementary School recognizes that some students may need the extra assistance available through the Learning Assistance Program (LAP) to reach the state’s high academic standards. In LAP, we intend to include parents in all aspects of the school’s program. The goal is a school-home partnership that will help all students to succeed. Once your student has met benchmark standards, he/she will exit from LAP. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at jbooth@stanwood.wednet.edu.
Happy Reading,

Library Happenings from Ms. Crimin
Welcome families to the 2021-2022 school year! It has been wonderful reconnecting with students and meeting new members of our CES school family! I would like to share some information about the library for this school year! If you ever have questions, please feel free to call or email. I am always here to help!
Book Check out
Students in Grades 2-5 are currently checking out books in the library. Kindergarten and Grade 1 students are learning library procedures at this time. These grade levels will begin checkout during library specialist soon! Grades 2 and 3 - max. checkout of 2 books at one time. Grades 4 and 5- max. of 3 books at one time.
Book Holds
Soon I will be sending out a tutorial on how to access Destiny Discover for students and families. Destiny Discover is the search portal for students to explore books currently available at Cedarhome library. All students have login access(with google) to search and put books on hold. Once books are on hold, I will be able to check them out to students and get them to their classrooms. This is an excellent way for students, including grades K-1 to currently access books. Note: Students in grades 2-5 have learned how to log on to Destiny during library specialist time and should be familiar with how to get to Destiny Discover.
Book Fair
Due to current circumstances, we will be having our fall book fair online. Dates for this event are from Oct. 4th-17th. As the fair gets closer, I will send a flyer home, as well as post the shopping link and information on the CES PTO facebook page, See Saw (Grades K-2) and Google Classroom (Grades 3-5). Included in the fair will be a few options.
*1) An e-wallet option (for families to load $$$ on to a student account). This is a perfect way for grandma/grandpa or others to add funds to an account for shopping.
*2) There will also be an All For Books option. This will give families the opportunity to support our CES library. Any funds donated will go towards new books for our shelves!
*3) Teacher Wish lists- Some teachers may create classroom wish lists that can be viewed by your family online to possibly purchase.
* These are optional items
