Titan Families,

Last week was bliss welcoming back our families. Each classroom was buzzing with new year goals and energy was high and optimistic. To support goal setting and making healthy food choices, our PTA set up Saturday, January 14th as our next spirit event! It is ALL DAY at Kale Me Crazy and you can order for delivery through this link! Please be sure to mention River Place ES. We hope you will go grab some food and support our school while you're out and about town.

It's the middle of the school year, and with that comes plans and thoughts of the school year's end regarding items like the school yearbook. That's right! The deadline is fast approaching, so sure to order your yearbook to capture this school year's memories! 5th grade parents, if you wish to purchase prideline ads in the yearbook, the price increases after January 20th. See the flyer in this newsletter for more information.

This week we will launch a long weekend. There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 16th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The City of Leander is hosting a MLK Day March and Celebration that day and our clothes closet will have an area set up there, too. It's a great event to celebrate and learn as a community if your family is looking for something free and fun to do!

Let's make it a great week of PRIDE in all we do!

Take care and be well,

Dr. Amy Sharp

Proud RPE Principal

River Place Elementary is looking forward to an author visit from Tae Keller on the morning of Wednesday, January 25. Tae Keller is the author of New York Times’ bestseller and Newbery Award winner of When You Trap a Tiger. She has also written a few other books, including The Science of Breakable Things and Jennifer Chan is not Alone.

The fourth and fifth grades will have the opportunity to listen to her speak about how she found a love for reading and writing, pursuing her passions, and encouraging students to pursue theirs. Keller’s presentation will be followed by a short Q&A session, so students are able to interact with her as well!

Feedback Requested: Consideration of Courses

This spring, Leander ISD will consider/adopt new instructional resources for six courses:

  • American Sign Language I-IV,
  • Chinese I-IV,
  • AP US History,
  • AP Calculus AB and BC,
  • African-American Studies, &
  • Mexican-American Studies.
Members of our LISD community have opportunities and are encouraged to provide feedback on these resources from January 17 - February 17 through in-person viewing at Central Office and Cedar Park High School or by viewing the materials virtually on the district website. We will host three Q&A Zoom meetings with district curriculum experts that allow community members to explore the options, ask questions and provide feedback. For questions about the instructional materials selection process, please reach out to Matt Bentz, Chief Academic Officer.

RPE will be utilizing School Dismissal Manager for all student default transportation settings as well as all afternoon transportation changes for the 2022 - 2023 school year. Please visit the School Dismissal Manager website to set up your account and to download the app. Please also take note of the new parent cut off time, 1:35pm, for making afternoon dismissal changes for your student. Remember that picking up your child from school early counts as a dismissal change and will need to be noted as an exception in SDM. For questions or help, please reach out to the front office.
