A Message from Mrs. Mendoza ( March 26th)
As we continue to plan and deliver online instruction for our students, we would like to ensure the lines of communication between our parents, students and teachers are appropriately working. Part of this effort is to dedicate certain days of the week to “Student Meet-ups” or “Family Meet-ups.” During these meet-ups, the teacher(s) will dedicate time to our students to check up on them, see their beautiful faces, and see if they need specific help with assignments. For parents/guardians, this will be the time for our teachers to speak with you to discuss how the online learning is going and to offer you support as needed. Teachers will begin making contact with both students and parents/guardians
this week, therefore please be on the lookout for a call from your child’s teacher or teacher(s).
Please keep in mind the following:
1. Initially, teachers will most likely contact you via Class Dojo, email, or their personal phone using an application that hides their personal information.
2. If you do not answer, teachers have been asked to leave you their name, email address,
and they will try and contact you later.
3. If you are having trouble contacting your child's teacher, please feel free to email me (email displayed above) and I will gladly assist you.
4. Academic grades and student attendance will NOT be recorded. Our goal is to connect
with every student on a weekly basis.
5. We realize that not all students will have a device or access to internet services. PreK – 2nd will have TCM workbook to cover Reading, Math, and Writing. They will be
delivered to student home address.
6. PreK – 2nd teachers will connect and communicate via phone, email or virtually if possible.
7. Work at your own pace. Please do not stress, have your child do what they can at home. The purpose is to keep the learning going. We understand we are all facing difficult times, but we just want to offer the support and learning opportunities the best we can.
Both the Ysleta ISD and Glen Cove have the best interest of your students at heart! We
understand the importance of communication with parents and the need to work collaboratively
in the best interest of your child. We also know that our students need to communicate with their teachers as much as our teachers want to and need to speak with them. The social-emotional needs, as well as the academic needs of our students, is of utmost importance to all of us at Glen Cove. We will get through this together Stars!
We thank you for your support and we miss our Star Community dearly!
Stay Safe Stars!
Margie Mendoza,
Principal

El Paso Public Library Resources
Great News! El Paso Public Libraries may not be open, however they are offering (in conjunction with) Tumblebooks free access to all El Paso area students. Students do not have to have a public library card to access it. They simply have to go to the EPPL website www.elpasolibrary.org and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on the Tumblebooks logo.
We will share with parents via Dojo. There are Spanish books and resources in Tumblebooks. (cue applause!)
We advise for kids to use the Tumblebooks on the EPPL website rather than in YISD's Clever due accessibility issues.
If parents and students would like to access the rest of the online resources that the EPPL offers (music, movies, magazines, and tons of e-books for all reading levels) they are offering parents and students temporary digital access library cards that they can easily apply for online. If you go to Downloadable Books and Media on the EPPL site you can fill out the information for digital access. It's an easy process. If you don't already have a library card you should try it out!

Tips for Online Schooling at Home
Tip #2: Set a schedule: Consistency is key. If you develop a schedule with your child, it will create more structure. After you create the schedule, POST IT. This will allow your child to preview what the day will look like (for the most part).
Tip #3: Establish an instructional area. This could be the dining table, a desk, a room, etc.
Tip #4: Play some Read Alouds: If you don't have many books for your child to read at home, some of your child's favorite authors are offering daily read-alouds during this time. You can also have them listen to audiobooks or podcasts for kids.
Tip #5: Use free educational websites
Tip #6: Print Activity Sheets
Tip #7: Include Physical Activity: Remember that students are used to having 30-45 minutes of PE a day. Below are some great ideas to remain active.
Tip #8: Be Creative! Enjoy this quality time with your child!
