Dear Parents and Staff
INTERSCHOOL CARNIVALS
I wish all of our competitors the best of luck in the Interschool Field (Tuesday) and Track (Thursday) Carnivals to be held at Gerry Archer Athletics Track next week. I am sure that they will give their best effort and make us all very proud of them.
OFFICIAL OPENING
The memory of the disruptions from our renovations to the Staffroom and the Library have quickly faded as the new term has commenced with all of the facilities being very much enjoyed by the children and the staff. To acknowledge these great new facilities, we will be holding an Official Opening next Friday, 1 November, at 2.00pm in the Mother Mary Piazza. I invite all families to join us for this significant milestone.
DANCE ASSEMBLY
Tomorrow afternoon we are breaking with our tradition of holding Assemblies in the morning as we revisit the wonderful recent performances of our Junior and Senior Dance Groups during the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival. The performances will commence at 2.30pm on the oval as this will allow us all to see and acknowledge the great efforts of the children and teachers. I hope to see many parents there.
OPEN NIGHT
Parents be sure to save the date for our Open Night from 4.00 to 6.00pm on Wednesday 6 November. Each of the classes will be set up with activities for parents and children to participate in and Mrs Flexman will be displaying the artwork that the children completed over the past two Terms. This is a not to be missed event!
AGMs
The Annual General Meetings for the Parents’ and Friends’ Association and the School Board will be held on Tuesday 26 November at 6.00pm. Nominations for representation on both groups are now open. Please see the P&F Report in this newsletter for details regarding becoming a member of the P&F for 2020.

Should you require any further information please contact me through the school office.
WA BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE
I have been contacted recently by Cassie Rowe MLA, Member for Belmont, about this great initiative. In last week’s newsletter I wrote about the dangers for children immediately after school. Why not take this opportunity to reduce some of the traffic pressure by parking a short distance from the school and allowing children, under supervision, to scoot, ride or skate back to the car. It’s a win-win situation as we may reduce traffic congestion and the children will get some additional exercise.

CLASS NEWS
In Year 4 we have been working on our teamwork skills and our ability to work co-operatively in groups. We have a saying that, “Together Everyone Achieves More”.
When we work together, we always try our best, respect others with our words and actions and work collaboratively to get the job done!
Here are some thoughts about teamwork from our Year 4 students:
“If you work together in a team you are more likely to achieve something excellent.” Keely 4P
When we work in a team we work quietly, sensibly and encourage each other and use everyone’s ideas.” Christian 4M
At the end of last term we read, ‘The Rainbow Fish’. In the story the rainbow fish is selfish. He keeps his sparkling scales to himself and does not share with others. As a result, he had no friends. In the end he decides to share his scales with the other fish. He makes friends with them and has a much happier life. In Year 4 we make sure we are always kind, caring and share with our friends so that we can all be happy and enjoy our time at Notre Dame Catholic Primary School.
What did I learn from The Rainbow Fish?
“I learnt that when you share with others it makes you and the people you share with happy.” Nicola 4P
‘I learnt that sharing is caring and if you share with others you are generous and are living the way Jesus taught us.” Callan 4M
We also created a fabulous underwater scene with two rainbow fish. Each of our fish has one sparkling scale and this scale reminds us to not be selfish, to always share and be kind to others.
We have commenced work on our Awesome Aussies and look forward to presenting all our hard work on Friday November 22, so parents please circle this date in your diary because it is something you won’t want to miss!

NATIONAL WATER WEEK 21-27 OCTOBER 2019
National Water Week provides an opportunity to remind ourselves and teach others that access to clean water is hugely important to every aspect of our lives, and we must do our best to protect our water environments and resources, use water wisely and respect its importance in our societies.
The theme for National Water Week this year is ‘It’s time to change the world’ which encourages young people and the wider community to think about how we use water and how we can protect it, so we have it in the future.
Throughout the week students have been participating in various waterwise activities to promote awareness around water conservation

Senior Athletics Carnival - Gerry Archer, 17 October
Last Thursday, students from Years 3-6 participated in the annual Senior Athletics Carnival at Gerry Archer Athletics Track. We were blessed with a fantastic day and the students were keen to put their best foot forward for their factions. One of the highlights of the day was seeing the Year 3’s participate in the 200m races. It’s fair to say there is plenty of budding athletes in the year 3 group! There were some very tight races throughout the day and many thanks goes to our magnificent chief judge, Mr Seers, who loved being in the thick of things and at times multi-tasking using the photo finish app that helped decide some very close calls. The standards in the team games continue to improve with students really keen to showcase their skills in-front of the big crowd!
The day finished off with our baton relays, grand baton relay and of course the Parents' and Teachers' vs Year 6 race. There were some interesting outfits and attire, but none-the-less the teachers and parents showed they’ve still got it! Congratulations to Prendiville who took out both the Senior and overall shields this year, taken over a 3 year run by Mercy. Special thanks to the fantastic parent helpers and teachers who worked tirelessly throughout the day to make sure it ran smoothly. Below are the Champion Girl and Boy results as well as the final placings. We now look forward to the upcoming Interschool Athletics Carnivals to be held in Week 3 with students getting in some much needed training sessions before the big events.

PARENT TV
When your child seems hell-bent on pushing your buttons, what can you as a frazzled do to try and defuse the situation?
You need to connect with them!
But in the moment, is there a quick and easy way to build this connection?
Thankfully for parents, the answer is YES!
Watch as child behaviour specialist Stephanie Wicker explains four evidence-based tips for connecting with your child! Watch the full video here: https://parenttv.com/videos/connecting-with-your-kids/
Most children aren’t strangers to "naughty words". And, they are pretty good at understanding what is considered "bad" language.
As children start getting older and doing their fair share of boundary testing, they tend to start slipping out a few swears to try it on.
So what is a parent to do?
