CHAUCIE'S PLACE, SMART STEPS
The Chaucie’s Place, Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children presentations will take place September 21, 2017 for kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th grade students at FCE. This program has been a part of many of our Hamilton Southeastern elementary schools in the past, as well as in several other Hamilton County school districts.
We would like to invite you to attend a parent meeting at Geist Elementary on the evening of September 6th at 6pm to provide you with additional information about the presentations. This presentation is for parents only.
The 30 minute presentations will be given within each classroom by a trained Smart Steps presenter. All Smart Steps presenters have completed background checks. They share a scripted, age appropriate presentation so the same message is communicated to all students in their grade level. The teacher will also be in the classroom during the presentation.
4th grade only: After the classroom presentation, 4th grade students will have the opportunity to mark “Yes” or “No” on a piece of paper to answer the question, “Do you need to talk to someone because you or someone you know was touched on a private part of the body for no good reason or to play a game?” A Smart Steps presenter and Mrs. Meyer, our school counselor, will follow up with each student that marks, “Yes.”
These presentations will be provided to all kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade classes. Although not required, each child’s attendance in the Smart Steps Body Safety program is strongly recommended. If you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in the program, please contact school counselor, Mrs. Marna Meyer at mmeyer@hse.k12.in.us or (317)594-4180.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matches to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
