Sounds of December
During the month of December, Mrs. Clark, and the Parkway Band and Orchestra have delighted us each week with a timely serenade. Our Sounds of December included the following:
December 2nd:
Hanukkah started this year on Sunday, November 28th. The final day of Hanukkah is this Sunday, December 5th. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that lasts for 8 days and 8 nights. The centerpiece of the Hanukkah celebration is the menorah. A candle is lit each night.
The song Dreydl, Dreydl, is a popular children's song played and sung during Hanukkah. It is about the Dreydl game, a famous family-fun Hanukkah tradition. This week's "Sounds of December" performance of Dreydl, Dreydl this morning featured Parkway Band students Karen Sharkey on alto saxophone, Emma Jerome on french horn, Alex Armstrong on trumpet, Caden Meiss on trumpet and Mrs. Clark on bass guitar in honor of this holiday.
December 10th: Up on a Housetop was the morning welcome to Parkway. Student performers included Alex Armstrong on the Trumpet, Lucy Hagadorn on Tuba, Frank Brown on Trombone, Ethan Cidzik on Tenor Sax, Matthew Ryan on Trombone and Mrs. Clark on Bass Guitar.
December 17th: Our Sounds of December this morning featured some of our string students performing Jolly Old St. Nicholas. Our performers included: Evelyn Lange on Violin, Payton Perrone on Violin, Kylee Warner on Violin, Eleanora Dubina on Violin and Mrs. Clark on Cello.

NJHS starts Books for the 'Boro Program
This year the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) collected winter themed books for all of the students in our 4 elementary schools. The books were donated by Middle School Campus students and staff. The idea for the campaign stemmed from a November NJHS where members discussed what to do for a December community service project.
On Thursday, December 16th, the NJHS students wrapped ALL 247 books AND wrote individual letters to each kindergarten student in our district! The NJHS students visited all Kindergarten classes on Tuesday, December 21st, and explained the project before passing out all the books and letters.
Well done NJHS! Special thanks to NJHS advisors Mrs. Butka and Ms. O'Brien.

Mykee Fowlin and Mentor Meetings
At its conclusion students moved to their "Mentor Meeting" room locations. Mentor Meetings were instituted this year on the MS Campus as an extension to our annual "Trusted Adult Survey." The Trusted Adult Survey asks students to identify campus staff they feel they can trust and/or feel comfortable with. Our goal each year is that every student will feel connected to AT LEAST one adult on campus. This year, Mentor Meetings paired students with one of their identified trusted adults in order to kick off winter break with a fun activity.
Thank you to all of our students and staff who participated. We wish you all a safe and restful winter break.
