DPM Newsletter - October 21
Friday, October 21, 2022
Dear DPM Families,
Can you believe next week is the end of Quarter 1? Students in creative arts classes will be transitioning to new sections starting Monday, 10/31! This week, we loved seeing seventh-grade scientists learn about tornadoes, 5th-grade scientists learn about how nutrients reach other parts of the body, 7/8 STEM students present on their inquiry-based projects, and more awesome learning all across the building.
Parent-teacher conferences took place on Thursday and Friday. We want to take the opportunity to once again thank all of you for your partnership as we work together to serve our students as they learn and grow through middle school.
Sincerely,
Megan Eigenrauch, 5/6 Principal
Sam Paulsen, 7/8 Principal

Two Upcoming Deerpath Road Closures
Deerpath Closure #1: Deerpath Road Closed Friday, Nov. 4 at 9 am through Monday, Nov. 7 at 6 am
The first closure is required for the bridge support walls to be poured. The framing required for this concrete pour requires steel bracing to extend into the roadway while the concrete cures. The support walls need to be in place and the concrete cured in order for the bridge deck to be installed the following weekend.
Deerpath Closure #2: Deerpath Road Closed Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 pm through Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 am
The second closure is required so the bridge deck can be lifted and placed onto the support walls.
During the closures, Deerpath Road will remain open to local access from Green Bay Road to Ahwahnee Lane. Drivers are encouraged to use Green Bay Road south to Westleigh Road to access both Route 41 and Waukegan Road during both closures. Learn more about the project at cityoflakeforest.com/ComEdBridge.
Planned Lockdown Drill 10/27
DPM will conduct a lockdown drill on Thursday, October 27. The Illinois School Safety Drill Act (105 ILCS 128/20) requires schools to provide guardians an opportunity to exempt their child from participating in the drill. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please complete this form prior to October 27th.
If your student is exempted, the school will provide alternative safety education and instruction related to an active threat. These students will be provided with essential information, training, and instruction through less sensorial safety training methods.
Thanksgiving Food Drive 10/31 through 11/4
Thanksgiving Food Drive starts Monday, October 31st through Friday, November 4th. The grade level who collects the most donations will win a popsicle party. Please encourage your child to participate!
- 5th grade is asked to bring Corn Muffin Mix
- 6th grade is asked to bring Canned Chicken and Turkey Broth
- 7th grade is asked to bring Canned Corn
- 8th grade is asked to bring Instant White Rice
Halloween Costume Guidelines
On Halloween (Monday, October 31), students are allowed to wear costumes to school. With this in mind, we are asking and expecting that the dress code be followed. If it is not followed, parents will be contacted to bring alternative clothing for their child.
Students may only apply make-up, color their hair, or put on costumes at home. Parents should have full knowledge of what their child will wear to school.
Students are not permitted to wear masks.
Students should respect political and/or religious beliefs.
Students should not wear anything that has a sexual connotation or would be considered inappropriate dress.
Costumes that promote graphic violence are not allowed (i.e. blood, gore, etc).
Students should not use costume props of a violent nature, such as toy guns, toy knives, and/or swords, etc.
In addition, there will be special celebrations at each grade level, so please look to your homeroom teacher for more information if you have any questions.

Spirit News
It is incredibly exciting to see Grants in Action!
A new Cricut Maker was granted for use in our 7th and 8th graders Home Arts and STEM classes! This collaborative grant written by Anthony Pollina (7/8 STEM teacher) and Karen Pederson (7/8 Home Arts teacher) last year, now allows students to design their own clothing embellishments all the while channeling their individual designs and creativity! This cross-cultural activity enhances the connection between the creative arts all the while connecting other disciplines to Home Arts & STEM such as math, art, and science as Graphic Design requires. A creative life is an amplified life! Can’t wait to see more local designs around town!!!!
Thank you Donors for helping to make these grants possible!
