After School Safety Class

Traveling safely to and from Forest Grove is a high priority at our school.

While we have communicated a strong emphasis on traffic safety around school, during March our focus will shift to teaching our students to be safe in the after school hours.

Our Pacific Grove Police Department School Resource Officer Yma Garcia will be be visiting our third through fifth grade to teach them after school safety tips.

In addition to teaching traffic rules, Officer Garcia will talk with students about taking safe routes home from school by avoiding shortcuts through unfamiliar areas and not talking to strangers.

The program also discusses safe practices at home and what to do in case of emergency.

Officer Garcia and school administration encourages our families to review the information in the booklet After School Safety that each one of our third through fifth graders will be receiving. A photo of the book’s cover accompanies this article.

The activity book presents safety information in an informative and fun format.

By combining the efforts of our police department, schools and families, we hope to increase the level of awareness and safety of our children.

Communicating with Forest Grove

Our telephone system has presented us with a daunting challenge over the past two months.

As many of you know, our telephone service has not been completely functional since we experienced a complete shutdown of service in mid-January.

Since that time, most of our extensions are working, and we have been able to reactivate our absence reporting line. Unfortunately, the rest of our voicemail system remains unreliable.

If you need to reach your child’s teacher, the best method of communication at this time is through email. If you need to contact Mr. Roggeman, you can email him at broggeman@pgusd.org. Our office is open during school business hours 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., so you can always call our staff or visit us in person during those times.

Over Spring Break, a new phone system will be installed at Forest Grove. The new system will become a model for the rest of the district, and once it is fully functional, we will send an announcement to our Forest Grove Falcon community.

Keep Our School Healthy

As the cold and flu season continues to linger, it is important to emphasize the importance of keeping your child home if he/she is sick.

We have had a few instances of kids coming to school when they are not feeling well, and as a result, the illness spreads in a class.

While we recognize the importance of sending our students to school, we need your cooperation to keep our school a healthy place for students and staff.

Please keep your child home from school if he/she has any of these symptoms:

  • Running a temperature higher than 99.0°

  • Fever or chills

  • Sore throat or trouble swallowing

  • Headache

  • Muscle aches

  • Sneezing

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea

  • Breathing trouble

  • Unusual spots or rashes
