Old Globe Theater Trip

Over fifty of our Bonsall High School students attended a field trip to The Old Globe theater in Balboa Park on Thursday, March 9. The students saw a performance of an original play Under the Baseball Sky, by Jose Cruz Gonzalez, directed by James Vasquez. The play is based on a true story about a San Diego neighborhood, Barrio Logan, and its strong ties between baseball/softball and the Latino community. Most of the students had never experienced a professional play performed in the round. All of the students reflected that they, “enjoyed the play way more than they had expected.” “It was great.” “I was really surprised by how cool it was.” Many of our students made cultural connections with the themes, plot, and actors who all represented different contingencies of the latinx community. The students were treated to a rare “talk back” after the play where the actors came out and answered their questions. Our students were praised for being such a great audience. We hope to be invited back to The Old Globe for future productions.--
