Terra Nova Testing Tips
Don't Stress, It's Just A Test!
Terra NovaTesting for Shughart Middle School is 10-14 March, 2014.
Confident. Prepared. Relaxed. Well rested. These are the traits of successful test-takers. Help your students get ready to excel while taking the Terra Nova with the following tips:
- Understand the purpose. Inform your child that this test is designed to find out which skills they have learned and which skills need further development. This is not a test that you can fail so simply do your best!
- Reassure your student. Inform your child that this test is very important but they should not become too anxious. Carefully read the directions and answer all of the questions and you will do just great.
- Be positive and supportive. Convey a positive attitude about the test for your student to emulate. Some questions will be hard, some easy remind you student they are not expected to know everything only to make their BEST effort to answer all of the questions.
- Relax and have breakfast. Ensure your students get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast before school to help them focus. Ensure the get to school on time so they have time to relax before jumping into the test.
If you follow these few suggestiong your student will have a great Terra Nova experience.
Rising 9th Graders: On the Move to High School
As you know, the 8th grade marks an important transition year. Your students are preparing to leave the middle school and continue on to become high school students. Graduating to a new school level usually means bigger school buildings, larger student bodies, more choices and more freedom. Along with excitement, students can feel anxiety, frustration and isolation. Please continue to look for information sent home that will provide strategies to ease the transition to high school.
