Summer Session 1 begins
The Teachers' Corner
As we transition into spring and the end of school, please be diligent with the following:
- Children need closed toed shoes. Everyday we have playground and classroom injuries due to inappropriate footwear. (Infants are excluded from this requirement).
- If your child needs sunscreen or bug spray before recess, notify us in Child Pilot. Then, send it in your child's backpack. We will keep it at school and apply it as instructed. Sunscreen and bug spray must be labeled. Also, each child needs to have their own. Due to classroom logistics, siblings may not share unless they are in the same class.
- Add extra spring/summer clothes to your child's backpack for emergencies.
Musikgarten Summer Camps
Ms. Shelley will continue music lessons in each classroom throughout the summer. If your child wants extra musical opportunities, she also has summer camp options!
Support Locally Owned!
All business names link directly to their websites. Click to learn more!
Volunteer Corner
Volunteer activities can be found in this section of the weekly newsletter. Participation is always optional, and we appreciate small acts of support just as much as grand gestures of support.
GUEST READERS NEEDED!
Please email me if you want to read a book to your child's class! The students LOVE having parents, grandparents, older siblings, and aunts/uncles read to them.
Guest reading will begin the week of September 5, and there are two options:
- In-person any afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
- Zoom at 10:00 a.m. during Library time
Community Resources
As I become aware of different family resources in our community, I will share them here:
Sesame Street Workshop - Family resources to help children grow smarter, stronger, kinder.
Helping Hands of Texas - Helps those who have become displaced as a result of unexpected hardships.
Little Free Pantry - McKinney Little Free Pantry provides non-perishable food, toiletries, aand basic life necessities with respect, love, and dignity for shoppers and donors. Assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with no rules or regulations as to who receives assistance.
City of McKinney has activities (some free!) all month long. Tomorrow, December 9, is the Parade of Lights and Christmas carolling.
The Bridge Connection is a community-focused group of volunteers dedicated to making hope a reality in the lives of the people in our community. If you are a family in need, you can use the link above to apply. If you know a family in need and would like to nominate them, please email admin@thebridgeconnections.org.

McKinney Police Department - Take Me Home Program
This program is designed to help individuals who may need special assistance if alone or in an emergency. Filling out an application will help officers find and identify individuals more easily if they become lost or disorientated or act in a manner that first responders could misinterpret.
This is a free service offered by the McKinney Police Department for any McKinney resident who has difficulty communicating. It is intended to serve individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, and other developmental or cognitive disabilities and older adults who may suffer from dementia or Alzheimer's.
Family activities and resources for children ages zero to five.
Offers all families free digital books written for children 0-4, and some families may qualify for free print books.
CCAoA is a national membership-based nonprofit organization working to advance a high-quality, affordable and equitable child care system that supports children's growth, development, and early education.
